Seeking Senior Writer/Editor

The Writers Guild of America, West, looking for a Senior Writer/Editor who can craft timely, relevant materials for the union that represents the entertainment industry's most talented content creators. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing communication plans and producing content designed to inform Guild members and engage them in their union's strategic initiatives. This position requires an experienced, dynamic writer who can articulate the WGAW's priorities in many areas including collective bargaining, internal and external organizing, contract enforcement, public policy, and important developments in the entertainment industry. Experience as a journalist is required. Expertise in using a wide range of communication tools - from traditional print publications to social media - is required. The Senior Writer/Editor must be able to work effectively with Guild members, leadership, and staff.




This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position with full benefits. The Senior Writer/Editor reports directly to the Communications Director and the position is in the bargaining unit represent by the Guild Staff Union. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS




  • Planning, editing, assigning and writing articles, art, photographs and audio-visual content for all Guild communications, including online and print publications, website, social media, brochures, leaflets, handouts, member e-mails and presentations. Must be able to set and manage tight deadlines.
  • Participating on team responsible for developing the social media component of the Guild's website.
    Identifying, writing and editing of stories for the Guild's monthly e-newsletter, WriteNow.
  • Engaging and involving Guild members in contributing content; interviewing Guild members for wide range of stories and traveling to their work locations to conduct interviews.
  • Managing outside vendors and freelancers.
  • Other duties as required.
