POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Systems Analysts team is committed to providing and evaluating solutions including custom-developed applications, third-party applications, and existing applications, in order to enable RIM to take full advantage of its business systems. Where required, the team helps manage the planning, requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, implementation, and quality assurance of projects across the Corporate & Business Operations Support Systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
Strategy & Planning
* Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems gaps and issues
* Lead design sessions in prototyping new systems for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow
* Work with solution architects closely to ensure the blueprints meet business needs
* Assist/Prepare cost-benefit and return-on-investment (ROI) reports for management
* Assess and evaluate the feasibility of pre-developed or deployed application to meet user requirements
* Contributing and providing recommendation to improve business and systems analysis, whether through planning, processes and/or tools
Acquisition & Deployment
* Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications/systems, and enhancements to existing applications/systems
* Conduct research on software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
* Identifies software gaps to business functionality requirements and provides recommendations for resolutions with the support business and technical team. This could include, but is not limited to:
* Gap Analysis
* Vendor Evaluation and Selection - RFx creation, demo scripts, scoring matrix, selection presentation
* Detail Specifications for custom-build application applications, ensuring both functional and non-functional requirements are met
* Change requests for enhancements to existing applications
* Implementation of enterprise-wide initiatives such as the implementation of a travel and expense solution or evaluation of FTP solutions. Examples of responsibility include:
* Facilitation of requirements gathering
* Business integration analysis
* Assist with project planning
* Training and change management associated with the initiative
* Prepare detailed flow charts and diagrams outlining applications capabilities and processes
* Assist in creating system design proposals to complex problems
* Represent CBOSS' interests in the definition and evaluation of new systems and initiatives in and outside of the organization
Operational Management
* Transition of existing custom developed and one-off solutions into CBOSS supported solutions
* Coordination of support plan definition to ensure ongoing support and maintenance of CBOSS and IT business systems
* Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operating systems across the organization
* Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions
* Where required, create systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmers
* Support Projects in all phases of development and implementation - design, development, unit and integration testing, QA and implementation
* Provide accurate level of effort estimates for assigned projects
Project and Process Management
* Utilizes project management discipline to ensure projects are completed within scope and on time
* Identifies areas for process and implementation improvement in current business practices
Leadership
* Leads other analysts in large scale initiatives and projects
* Provide guidance and/or instruction to junior members
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
* A Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) is required
* 10 years of business and systems analysis experience including systems requirement and functional specifications of systems or software, high level design and implementation of software systems.
* 5 years of experience in software development or technical equivalent role a high tech environment
* Experience in implementation of enterprise wide initiatives and solutions
* Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products
* Working technical knowledge of Enterprise Java technologies (Servlets/JSP, JSF, Struts, AJAX, EJB, Web Services, Portlets)
* Extensive practical knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts.
* Experience with core software applications, including SAP, Livelink, Business Objects, MS Office, Visio, SQL queries and databases
* Strong attention to detail
* Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required
* Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills
* Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
* Highly self motivated and directed
* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
* Strong customer service orientation
* Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
* Familiarity with Enterprise systems/products such as Exchange, SAP, BMC/Remedy
* Familiarity with Portal Technologies
* Familiarity with Web 2.0 concepts
* Familiarity with security and networking concepts
* Familiarity with JBoss Suite of products (Application Server, Portal, ESB)
* Familiarity with BEA Suite of products (Application Server, Portal, BPM, ESB)
* Knowledge of various IT systems and infrastructure
