Position Description

Responsible for the planning, implementation, configuration, and administration of the relational database management system of Medtronic's standard (Oracle and SQL Server). Documents long-range requirements, operational guidelines, access controls, and backup and recovery processes. Develops recommendations regarding policies, procedures, and standards relating to databases and database management, and security and integrity controls. Reviews database design and integration of systems, including client/servers configurations, and makes recommendations for enhancements and improvements. Develops Transact-SQL, PL/SQL code and UNIX shell scripts. Provides training to other DBA resources and developer teams

Position Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Develop initiatives and strategies to promote and manage change in processes, tools and technologies.
Design and implement architectural solutions to promote a scalable, robust, and manageable database environment.
Formulate and enforce policies, standards and guidelines regarding databases and database management.
Troubleshoot and tune database environment and code, and define performance thresholds.
Consult on database program design and review Transact-SQL and PL/SQL created by application developers.
Provide technical guidance to database application development teams and assist with problem resolution.
Conduct quality control audits to ensure adherence to standards.
Work with business analysts and application developers to create and implement conceptual, logical and physical data models.
Provide coaching, training and work direction to other DBAs within the team.
Analyze data access, integration, and storage requirements for databases.
Define security and integrity rules.
Represent organization as a prime contact on projects. Interact with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline and a minimum of 4 years of IT and Oracle DBA experience, Or

Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline and a minimum of 2 years of IT and Oracle DBA experience

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Oracle products including RDBMS, Net, SQL*Plus and PL/SQL, Designer, Application Server, and Oracle Enterprise Manager
Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards related to the Oracle RDBMS.
Full knowledge of industry practices in the areas of database design and support
Data Modeling, relational modeling and physical database design
Competent in O/S scripting and how the database interacts with O/S
Ability to develop standard procedures and practices relating to databases and database management
Project management skills: ability to coordinate multiple resources to take medium to large projects to successful completion
Communication skills consistent with constant customer contact and ability to understand customer requirements
Good presentation skills
Strong prioritization skills
Good technical writing skills
Strong time management skills
Demonstrated mentoring and collaboration skills
Strong analytical problem solving skills
Strong communication skills, both oral and written

Experience with SQL Server and/or DB2, various SQL Server products including MOM, Transact-SQL and the SQL Server Enterprise Manager, with n-tier application and infrastructure architecture, and with implementation and support of database name resolution solutions

Advanced degree in Computer Science or business related discipline
Oracle Certification
Vendor Certification (such as MCDBA, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Master) preferred
