Description
The Senior Director of Data Management will be responsible for managing a group of 5 people who oversee the data management - acquisition, governance, validation & distribution of SAI's products data. This person will understand and approach duties from the perspective that data quality is a collaborative business and IT matter as he/she champions high-quality data from vendors, through the database, data warehouse to reports & distribution.
The most effective leader will be familiar with core data management business values and practices but should also be able to understand data models, tech-speak and data storage topics from a high and low level. (A systems analyst background with relevant industry understanding and outstanding communication skills will be ideally suited to bridge this sometimes gap between technology and the business.)
Primary Responsibilities include
* Responsible for the leadership, management & oversight of the data management
* Ability to recognize & resolve end to end impacts of process, governance, and data quality issues in a timely manner
* Strong negotiation, consultation, and conflict resolution skill set
* Demonstrated ability to work as a team and succeed in ambiguous, fast paced and non-mandated environments
* Comprehensive understanding of the value and need of a strategic Data Governance program, consistent Reference Data practices and the value of Data Management
* Lead meetings, drive results in preparation of project planning directly with business users and sponsors, including requirements and architecture review, and project milestone sessions
* Strong experience with one or more components of Data Management: Data Acquisition, Data Validation/Governance &/or Data Distribution
* Ability to adapt and quickly learn aspects of new Data environments, data warehouse & reporting technologies.
* Oversees the development/elicitation of business requirements and translate them into functional specifications.
* Evaluate and recommend data improvements & efficiency gains.
* Ability to understand Data modeling based on business requirements, and optimization of data models for Business Intelligence implementations
Qualifications
Education and Experience
* 6+years experience managing people
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
* 4+years of experience in financial services required
Skills and Knowledge
* Depth of knowledge in data management, data analytics, quantitative analysis, data fusion, and operations oversight strongly preferred
* Demonstrated expertise in one or more programming language, such as SQL, is a plus
* Able to manage client relationships and provide guidance to staff
* Broad understanding and knowledge of applicable business processes
* Solid oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
* Good organizational and project/people management skills
* Objective, creative, and diplomatic team player
* Ability to function in a high volume setting with tight deadlines
* Attention to details and accuracy focus
