The Senior Programmer Analyst contributes to the design, development, technical implementation, and support of web applications and services within the Manage Your Card Account application suite.
Responsible for ensuring that the design and build meet the defined business requirements. Also responsible for the production of the associated design documentation. Develops code specifications, performs coding duties or manages third-party development of code. Involved in unit, integration and user acceptance testing. Assists in resolution of defects as required. Works with Quality Assurance Managers to ensure successful completion of test phase. Works primarily with Lead Programmer Analysts and Lead Business/Technical Architects in technical design, development, testing, rollout and documentation. Responsible for the timely delivery of development projects and may be involved in all aspects of the development life cycle, from requirements analysis and design through development, testing, implementation and documentation Provides estimates for design, build, test and implementation phases. Undertakes regular code reviews to ensure alignment with development, implementation and performance standards. Updates program specification/implementation documentation. Works with project team to prepare code for installation into production and validates install success during off-peak hours. Escalates, provides feedback and proposes changes to program/implementation specifications.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for the following activities that are critical to maintaining a high-degree of technical proficiency within this organization: Problem and project understanding to ensure high quality requirements are written to facilitate the software design and build phases. Code design including best practices for software construction using object, tools and software management systems. Driving the software build and deployment process. Oversight of component level testing and controls Coordination and partnering with a software development team comprised of vendor and employee teammates at both on and offshore development centers. Evaluation and recommendation of best practices and tools to improve availability and performance of the platform. Keeps up with the latest industry research to ensure AXP remains aligned with the competition as well as internal standards. Has appropriate knowledge of package solutions, AXP applications hardware, software, operating systems, testing, and environments. Provides a source of expertise on technical functions, systems analysis, design and integration. Combines knowledge of Amex systems, development skills, and the customer service industry. Maintains industry and American Express technical certifications within the appropriate technology.

Required Qualifications:
Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years programming experience with consistently increasing requirements in software development, architecture, and testing. An advanced degree or software certification from a recognized institution such as Sun Certified Java Developer. Experience with a formal software development methodology such as Method/1, or Rapid Application Delivery (RAD). A minimum of 2 years experience in web application development, using JAVA J2EE, OOD, JSP, JAVA, OOD, UML, XML, HTML, CSS, and DHTML technologies. Working knowledge of web application development including web server set up, optimization, performance, multiple tier design, and database integration. Experience with WebSphere tools, IBM MQ Series, or other middleware/messaging technologies a plus. Experience with web service implementations a plus. Exposure to multiple platforms, i.e. IBM mainframe, etc. a plus. Familiarity with Systemware X/PTR and Xenos software a plus. Must be able to manage multiple tasks effectively and progress work in parallel. Must possess strong analytical skills in identifying and correcting the root cause of performance and quality related issues. Must be a strong communicator who can share critical expertise and knowledge to influence the technical design and development of a solution while creating a cohesive team environment. Must be a self starter who can work independently with well developed analytical and strategic thinking skills.
