Senior Software Engineer, QA Automation Tracking Code 101487 Job Description POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES In support of the Blackboard SDLC, the Senior Software Engineer works to ensure that the product meets specified requirements, working as an integral member on an agile team. Using industry standards and QA best-practices, the Automation Engineer develops innovative, cutting-edge automation solutions and technologies. We are looking for an Engineer who is detailed oriented, well organized, quick learner, and can multi-task. The Automation Engineer will work as a member of a cross functional team including product analyst, software engineers, and QA analyst, so effective communication, collaboration, and team work is essential for success. The Senior Software Engineer will play an integral role in the success of the Automation group and to help ensure ensures that Blackboard products meet total quality management and/or other reliability standards today and tomorrow. Specifically s/he will:
* Break down large/complex problems and be involved and/or lead the process of design, implementation, and rollout of automation projects and solutions. * Use latest technologies, tools, and techniques to develop automation and test management framework (Java, J2EE, Selenium, TestNG, Web Services, JMS, XML, SQL, etc.). * Maintain and extend test coverage along with creating appropriate tools, utilities, and automation scripts that assist in functional testing and to create test data. * Practice automation development efficiency, maintainability and reusability. * Comprehend high level requirements and design and contributes to their details. * Understand software quality best practices, test strategy and planning, test case development, test case deployment and execution, test data, defect tracking, and test automation; actively participates in process improvements. * Recognize issues (e.g. with requirements, design, implementation, etc.) and works with appropriate resources to address and resolve * Contribute feedback and guidance to development of functional and technical specifications. * Work with other developers to set standards and define best practices for automation approach, coding, and design. Perform design and code reviews. In addition, will:
* Develop effective test cases in accordance with Bb processes for technical components/modules. * Develop a detailed understanding of how and why clients use the application. * Help ensure overall product quality. * Effectively collaborate and communicate with others. * Become an expert in her/his product features/functionalities. * Create and manages testing schedule.
Required Experience PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED SKILLS:
* 5+ years of software design and development experience in Java environment. Strong Java knowledge is a must. * Mid-level to senior-level experience and expertise of J2EE technology stack and related technologies and tools. * Expertise of advanced software engineering concept (design patterns, SDLC, OO, UML Modeling, SOA). * Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal skills with a self-starting attitude, team-player, and flexibility. A fast-learner and high degree of creativity and initiatives is expected. * Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and short term and long term planning skills. * Ability to contribute to or lead a team of engineers in cross-function teams and distributed environment. * Background in web technologies and enterprise application implementations in a large-scale, multi-platform, distributed environment. * B.S. in Computer Science or related area of study and be eligible to work in the United States. PREFERRED SKILLS:
* Experience with developing automated validation systems strongly preferred * Experience with developing and scripting from test specifications and developing function libraries and product independent scripts. * Experience in developing test tools to improve productivity of test scripts development and execution. * Experience with commercial and open-source automation tools and scripting languages strongly preferred. * Experience with Java frameworks and Web 2.0 technologies and frameworks strongly preferred. * Experience performing as a team lead is a plus. * The ideal candidate will have an interest in improving software reliability and quality through automation and consistent automation process.
