Turbine, Inc. seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Turbine Development department. Turbine is looking for a senior level software engineer to assume a key role in the development of Turbine's future, evolving both technology and entertainment experiences from our current, multi-award winning technology foundation into the next generation of MMO gaming. As the Database Architect, you will act as an expert in database technology. The successful candidate will be equally capable of designing and writing code for both the database schema and data access layers which extend the functionality of the Turbine engine. Always looking forward, we are currently gathering the core, key members of the Game Engine team that will shape the next generation of Turbine online entertainment.
Candidates must be comfortable working in a professional environment and be capable of working closely (and calmly) with the Director, their peers and customers in high pressure situations. The candidate should possess strong communication skills and be able to discuss technical issues with non-technical people such as artists and designers.
The candidate should demonstrate their drive, motivation, and dedication to computer games and game technology. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated gamer and be able to critically analyze the game play and technology of state-of-the-art video games.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Analyzes existing data models and usage patterns for optimization.
* Analyzes future business plans for impact on existing data architecture.
* Designs logical and physical data models as well as data access layer.
* Implements physical data model and data access layer.
* Defines data mapping from existing to future models as needed.
* Oversee database performance issues and guide optimizations in system designs.
* Lead technical design discussions on systems within data architecture.
* Analyzes requirements in order to design and implement modular systems.
* Provide reliable and accurate time estimates for tasks.
* Document systems thoroughly, both in terms of design and implementation.
* Provide mentoring for other engineers.
* Ensure system quality by performing code and design reviews.
* Develop and maintain other game engine systems as required.
* Maintain significant familiarity within engineering domain.
* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager. JOB REQUIREMENTS
* 5+ years of experience with RDBMS systems.
* 5+ years of experience with MS SQL Server.
* 5+ years of experience with C++.
* Experience with data modeling tools.
* Experience profiling SQL.
* Experience with Client/Server models.
* Experience designing enterprise class database architectures.
* Experience debugging crash dumps.
* Experience with source control processes.
* B.S. in computer science, computer engineering or other relevant field.
