Job Description: Lead Software Engineer
Seeking an experienced Software Engineer to contribute to a line of digital media management products in the Digital Media Systems Business Unit (DMSBU) within Emerging Technologies Group (ETG). This business unit is focused on new growth areas for Cisco in the area of enterprise digital media space for applications like Video content management in Web 2.0 paradigm, VOD, webcasting, and digital signage. Chosen candidate will join a small high performance team at the early stages of a new and exciting product line.
Responsibilities: -Candidate will be responsible for proposing, designing and implementing solutions for streamlining the overall architecture of DMS product suite with marketing goals in consideration. -Candidate will be also be required to learn emerging areas in digital media technologies and work with marketing on determining the attendant changes to the product architecture. -Develop, maintain and support J2EE/Web applications for the product line. Candidate will work closely with a team of software engineers and marketing to propose, design, implement and test new features based on customer requirements. -The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally (across functional units within DMSBU and across business units) in determining how DMS product suite is affected by peer applications and vice versa.
Requirements: -Strong background in object-oriented design, Java, Web-presentation techniques, and large scale J2EE-based web application design. -Prior experience with usage of Spring POJO container would be a significant advantage. -Strong plus: understanding of digital media technology and streaming media management systems. -Experience with troubleshooting and performance-profiling J2EE applications -Background in video technologies such as ACNS, CDN, multicasting, Windows Media Real, MPEG, Flash, Quick Time, and encoding appliances a huge plus. -Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a distributed team; be able to take on the mentorship of junior engineers. -String plus: thorough understanding of Cisco Internetworking technologies for the enterprise.
