Responsible for design, deployment, configuration and support of the AS400 servers and operating systems. Recognizes and troubleshoots problems with server hardware and applications software. Establishes and documents standards and procedures for management review. Proposes and implements systems enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. Plans for new projects, creates solutions for automation, and develops policies for operations and security for management reveiw with best practices in mind. Provides technical assistance and mentoring to other administrators in the group. * Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. * Engineers new solutions to automate some administration tasks. * Develops operational and configuration policies and procedures to promote best practice and compliance with applicable standards. * Plans, develops, and implements security policies. Works with IT application owners and IT Security and Compliance to maintain the environment. * Plans for new projects, creates solutions for automation, and develops policies for operations and security for management review with best practices in mind. * Provides support to rest of team in troubleshooting problems. * Creates concept documents for new projects. * Repair sand recovers from hardware or software failure while coordinating the appropriate help with vendors as necessary. * Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures. * Implements hardware and software systems. * Patches operating system, upgrades operating system and performs other needed preventive maintenances to the UNIX environment. * Establishes and documents standards and procedures for management review. * Administration of systems, including password changes, account management, software and hardware support, system monitoring, performance tuning, backup planning, and troubleshooting. Required Skills
* Ability to write CL programs. * A solid understanding of an OS400 * Understands memory paging and faulting * IFS filesystem concepts * Can use performance analysis to tune systems * A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts * Understands principles of routing, client/server programming. * Works with IT application owners and team members to learn their systems and needs. Required Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or comparable field of study. * 5 plus years work of IT experience required. * Knowledge of telecommunications business application systems preferred. * Proficiency with MS Office tools required. * Experience in Systems Development Lifecycle * Required experience with IBM Power Platform * Required experience with LPAR and SAN storage Job Location ROCHESTER, NY, US.
