Position Overview
The Senior Systems ETL Developer, on our Microsoft based Enterprise Data Warehouse, focuses on leading and performing the processes of analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of systems or applications to ensure client needs and service levels are met. This role is specifically required to develop and support our Enterprise D ata W arehouse.
Key Requirements:
Advanced in Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing development practices (5 years experience).
Advanced in Microsoft SSIS programming language.
Advanced in SQL query development
Competent within and using Microsoft SRSS.
Advanced in utilizing SQL database programming language on SQL Server a CLIC supported database platform.
Advanced in a Windows development environment.
Advanced data model understanding (reading/navigation).
Advanced data analysis, design and integration skills.
Competent in Project Management Methodology.
Advanced in change management processes.
Diploma or Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science with six years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Analysis:
Following Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, read, understand and interpret requirements documentation and problem descriptions from a variety of business users and clients of IT. Identify and analyze requirements for completeness, technical risk, work effort and impacts.
Research, identify and document solutions for application defects. Where necessary, use debugging tools to determine root cause of defects and/or liaise with vendors.
Design:
Lead the process of translating requirements into a cohesive plan with options for a working solution.
Ensure the overall design considers all aspects (environment, strategy, key business need, user demand, integration with related systems, financial implications, etc.) and all design/system components are feasible, maintainable, usable, scalable and work with the overall technical design of the system(s) or solution.
Lead design review and validation with peers, Business Analysts, Subject Matter experts, Architecture, Operations, Security, Legal and Audit to ensure it is complete, compliant, and follows the standards, guidelines and recommendations of the SDLC process and Enterprise Architecture.
Development and Unit Testing:
Act as a development lead, choosing the approach, planning and delegating the work, writing new code and leveraging existing code, and conduct code reviews for projects of varying levels of complexity.
Track and report progress, providing estimates, actual effort and effort remaining for the development team.
Present new discoveries in programming solutions and practices. Research, recommend and implement new technologies and innovations applicable to development environment.
Testing:
Lead testing by coordinating set up of test environments, execute developer function, integration and systems tests that are comprehensive in nature, running batch cycles, completing back-up and recovery functions
Ensure coverage of both functional and non-functional business requirements within test planning and execution, covering stress testing, load testing and performance testing.
Document, redesign, recode, escalate and report on defects while minimizing the introduction of new defects.
Implementation:
Lead and coordinate implementation tasks with all affected parties (ie Operations, Security, Business Units) utilizing the SDLC checklists.
Communicate implementation progress and status to all affected parties and provide direction on go/no-go decisions.
Provide post implementation support including resolution of defects found during warranty period.
Ensure documentation is ready for handoff and present plan to transition system to support team.
Coaching, Planning, Organizing and Coordinating:
Provide mentorship, leadership and guidance to peers and junior staff through the SDLC. Assign, review and provide feedback on learning tasks to peers and junior staff.
When requested, perform project manager duties for small to medium sized projects or sub projects.
As lead resource, organize, direct and control the activities carried out by the team, managing changes, issues, risks. Communicate and coordinate deliverables to ensure what is delivered is what is expected.
