Due to growth in our Products division, Blackbaud is searching for technical writers to join our team in our San Diego, CA. The key emphasis during the first year will be to master domain knowledge of our products, learn technical writing tools and concepts, and create user assistance content. This position offers you the chance to work with a leading software company while your work helps the greater good. The User Education team is taking technical writing to the next level so apply today! This position reports to the User Education Manager. You will be a member of a cross functional, high performing matrix team consisting of Software Engineers, Quality Assurance Analysts, Technical Writers, Interaction Designers, and a Program Manager. Performance Objectives
Major Objectives:
1. Create customer-centered user assistance content that enhances the user experience and adds value to our software products.
2. Evaluate and implement feedback about user assistance content as well as respond quickly and diplomatically to the source of the feedback.
3. Successfully work on multiple projects with concurrent and shifting deadlines. You must meet these deadlines while producing work that meets the standards of both Blackbaud and our clients.
4. Research and learn new technologies as required by the products you document and the tools and methodologies used to create user assistance content.
5. Interact with Subject Matter Experts to efficiently gather information with the goal of becoming an expert on the products you document.
6. Work closely with other team members and show initiative in improving overall documentation content and processes, and drive the implementation of these initiatives.
7. Contribute to the overall Products division by offering feedback on product specifications, developed code, and general user perspective captured through writing assistance content and learning about the products.
Training: During the first six months you will:
1. Learn and research Blackbaud software to gain an in-depth knowledge of our products. This knowledge should be gained through self-development, direct exploration, job shadowing, tutorials, and online and instructor-led seminars and trainings.
2. Learn about our clients through usability studies, client visits, observing Support calls, and by reviewing feedback from internal groups that work closely with clients on a daily basis, including Support and Consulting. 3. Learn technical writing tools and techniques from a mentor, the documentation team, tutorials, and a variety of other training opportunities.
Required Experience:
The person selected for this position should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in business communications or a related field. The candidate should have strong writing abilities, proofreading skills, and attention to detail. The individual should also have an enthusiastic work ethic, passion for technology, and the discipline to manage multiple tasks. Knowledge of technical writing tools and workflows is a plus.
