About the Job
We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive software engineer to help develop new features and applications to dramatically enhance our customer experience and make our portal a best in its class platform in terms of performance, availability, quality and security. An ideal candidate will have strong customer-facing web application programming experience, demonstrated keen problem solving skills, and the ability to design and implement powerful yet easy to use solutions.

About the Team
EdgeControl is Akamai’s main portal. It is the critical system that all of our customers interact with to gather traffic analytics, manage configurations, fetch training and support materials and view their bills. The Portal Systems group is responsible for the software infrastructure and technical evolution of EdgeControl, and is located in San-Mateo, CA.
Development engineers in the Portal team execute full lifecycle development of a large-scale multi-tier web application: requirements analysis, application design, implementation and deployment to customer-facing production. We develop primarily in Java and Perl.

Responsibilities:

* Design and develop new web applications in Java.
* Design and develop back-end infrastructure components and pertaining web services.
* Help manage changes to existing customer applications.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.
* Minimum 4 years developing customer-facing applications using Java and J2EE.
* Minimum 2 years relational database programming (preferably Oracle).
* Minimum 2 years of Perl scripting.
* Minimum 2 years working in UNIX / Linux environment.
* Excellent written and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications
* Masters degree in Computer Science or related field.
* Web performance, security and accessibility expertise.
* Deep understanding of internet and networking protocols.
