Solution Architects define and lead the implementation of technology solutions including application design, development and integration.
The Solution Architect partners with project sponsors and business users to understand solution requirements and needs. Based on these requirements they define and document the application design.
As a member of the Platform group within Enterprise Architecture this role will be responsible for working with business colleagues across Mercer business units/functions to deliver solutions that leverage our shared services, platforms and standards to enhance Mercer productivity by enabling employee self-service. This includes specific business unit opportunities was well as those relating to knowledge management, information retrieval, consulting project management, marketing, and other activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Define and implement solution architectures for utilizing shared platform services and other technology to meet business needs. Shared Platform includes Microsoft SharePoint, Shared App Hosting, Shared Oracle RAC, Shared SQL Server and other components.
Partner with the business/functions to understand our global business needs relating to Knowledge Management, Employee Self Service
Design solutions for implementation by development teams. Lead development teams through development process.
Strong consulting and development experience delivering Sharepoint solutions, across various versions. Knowledge of the applicable SharePoint SDKs and a detailed understand of the SharePoint object model and how it should (and should not) be used
Implementing high quality, scalable and extendable SharePoint solutions. Awareness of migration and implementation plans that address both tactical and strategic needs.
Design and implement development workflow Coding, testing and implementing solutions in a SharePoint environment. Taking directions from management in implementing solutions. Unit testing for all assigned deliverables.
Will work from high level requirements through detailed specifications, Rapid prototype, software deployment and administration.
Work with other Enterprise Architects and business technology teams to identify and support cross-business and cross-region (i.e. global) opportunities for reuse, collaboration and standardization to meet business needs.
Lead the architectural/solution development of specific architectural components
Identify and execute migration strategies from current environments to a next generation "Web 2.0" environments
Keep current with and report on industry trends relating to "knowledge worker" technology, processes, emerging technologies and best practices.
Provide insightful and credible technology advice that balances the functionality, costs and risks of the proposed technologies and maximize business value.
Technical Competencies:
o Proven ability to identify and define the "right solution" and develop pragmatic and practical solutions.
o Defining and applying technology related standards, process and governance.
o Experience of relevant technologies, for example:
* Microsoft technologies (Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, SharePoint 2007 and 2010, .NET 3.5, TFS 2008, SQL Server 2005 and 2008) - Experience is critical. * SharePoint Designer experience desirable * Enterprise and Desktop search solutions desirable * Enterprise Content Management (including Document Management, Records Management and Web Content Management) * Development methodology and modeling expertise (e.g. MDA, OOD, BPM) * Tools for business intelligence, application management and analytics.
o Delivery of enterprise-level solutions (global and/or multiple line-of-business) in one or more specific technology domains (e.g. Knowledge Management, ECM, Data Management, Workflow/BPM/BPA).
o Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) and Sharepoint Certification desirable.
o Experience of migration projects, especially Livelink 9.x to Sharepoint desirable.
o Taxonomy management tools or implementation experience valuable.
Qualifications
* Analytical and problem solving capability. * 1+ years of experience in technology leadership roles, for example Solution Architect, Application/Integration Architect. * 3+ years of experience in technical roles within an Applications Development environment (either in-house IT or as a consultant) * Strong collaborative skills, ability to coordinate and work collaboratively with remote teams and individuals. * Strong written, visual and verbal communication and meeting facilitation skills, proven at all levels from developers to business leaders * Project Management and Team Leading experience valuable. * Experience working with virtual teams.
