Rare is the opportunity to architect, integrate, and build completely autonomous closed-loop infrastructure automation software at scale. The eBay Seattle development center is looking for a top-notch software developer to architect and build recovery-oriented Unix Hadoop infrastructure automation. As a senior developer you will have broad responsibility for a huge, new, exciting area for eBay: large-scale network and computing infrastructure automation. We are building the "autonomic computing" and baseline platform system for eBay that will dramatically grow our core capabilities, slash operations costs, and enable a richer ecosystem of business applications that can scale flexibly, quickly, and comfortably to our needs.
You will architect, develop, and evolve the software we need to take eBay to the next level of 21st century computing.
You will research, evaluate, integrate, and create best-of-breed software that eliminates human involvement in all administrative and operational aspects of network and computing infrastructure from "bare metal" installation and deployment through automated recovery, and automatic scaling / tuning. You will specify and develop the low-level application programmer interfaces (APIs) for our next-generation large-scale back-end data systems (Hadoop) and computing infrastructure. You will provide the "plumbing" and low-level, recovery-oriented APIs that will take eBay to the next level of efficient, flexible, scalable, large-scale systems. You will work closely with the Seattle-based next-generation team that develops and maintains the Hadoop platform.
The ideal candidate will have a great mix of deep technical skills in operations, software engineering, infrastructure, and architecture. Experience in large-scale systems and recovery oriented computing are required.

Job Requirements
Deep experience with large scale Unix systems and their operation.
Excllent knowledge of IP Networking at large scale.
