The Software Engineer will be an individual contributor that will work in a team environment and demonstrates technical and problem solving skills. In this role you will utilize experience or expertise to develop and execute business objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals. Essential Responsibilities * Design and implement Object-Oriented software solutions for a Train Dispatching/Traffic Control System
* Proven ability to understand existing system and design new functionality
* Participate as a reviewer in technical and program reviews
* Ability to communicate directly with customers and provide technical support
* Work with a field support team to diagnose customer issues and resolve issues
* Define and execute unit, sub-system, and system tests to validate system behavior
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements as well as perform system testing
* Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures Qualifications/Requirements * Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Engineering Discipline Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. * Minimum 3-5 years of C++ on Unix/Linux experience
* Minimum 2-3 years of Unix / Linux script development experience e.g. ksh, bash, PERL, Jython / Python experience
* Experience working with a client server architecture & frameworks
* Working knowledge in configuration management and defect tracking tools
* Domain knowledge in Computer Aided Dispatch Systems and Railroad Operating Practices
* Experience in Object Oriented Database like Versant
* Experience in CORBA / Tuxedo / Web Logic Server
* Experience in Java / J2EE, Java 2D, Swing, Web services
* Experience in using Relational Database experience
* Experience in VM environment
* Experience in development of large scale enterprise systems
* Understanding and translating customer requirements to software solutions
* Experience with ClearCase and ClearQuest applications for source control
* Experience with System Testing Processes, Tools, & Automation
* Ability to creatively solve complex problems
* Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment
