Software Quality Engineer - Marine
Title: Software Quality Engineer - Marine Location: KS-Olathe Perform software quality testing and test development activities for Garmin's Software Quality Engineering team by conducting module and system level troubleshooting on products such as marine networks and displays, digital marine instruments, marine radar, satellite weather, and sonar to name a few. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Develop manual test cases, batch files and/or automated test scripts as well as create periodic test reports as necessary per test process. * Participate in system requirements reviews and evaluate requirement testability and quality * Create test plans that are applicable to each release by working closely with product development teams to ensure quality and usability of Garmin products * Execute test cases/scripts as identified per test process * Analyze defects found to provide as much support or information as necessary to software development teams * Perform comparative and failure mode analysis of test efforts and results. * If identified as test coordinator for a product, lead overall test planning, readiness reviews, and execution for that product * Define new or improved test processes * Analyze test results and users' feedback, and communicate with product development teams to assist in problem resolution. * Train and mentor new team members OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform other job-related duties as assigned EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED: * Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics from a four year college or university, or equivalent education/experience * Excellent academics (composite GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) * 3 years experience in software quality or test engineering * Experience testing embedded devices * Superior organizational and analytical skills * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Relevant experience in software quality assurance processes and methodologies * Relevant experience in creating test plans, conducting usabilities test and/or writing automated test scripts is preferred * Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks * Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and to exercise sound independent judgment
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: * Experience with HP Quality Center * Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) * Previous experience working in a team environment * Inherent or adaptive ability to perform wiring, setup and troubleshooting of hardware modules and serial connections on 12 and 24 volt marine networks. * Experience testing and developing/analyzing tests for GPS devices in a core product market (Aviation, Automotive, Mobile, Marine, OEM, Fitness, Outdoor and Recreation)
