Our client is a Fortune 500 Healthcare company with headquarters in Louisville, KY.
Modis is searching for Senior AIX Administrator who knows Virtualization (IBM's Power of VM).
Summary:
Responsible for providing technical leadership and guidance in planning/implementation/maintenance across all departments within the Kindred IT operating systems, infrastructure and middleware departments. Continually aware of the current IT/Business expectations, Customer Service Level Agreements and industry best practices. Serves as a project lead/participant and industry expert within the technical areas of the assigned Kindred IT operating department. Assists manager with departmental managerial procedures.
Tasks:
. Leads/participates on multiple enterprise projects, and oversees departmental projects. Ensures that projects are clearly defined, systematically executed, and business results oriented. Adherence to Project Management processes and standards within Kindred are required.
. Prepares and conducts formal presentations for management concerning major projects and new technology directions.
. Supports/contributes/performs operational procedures and standards within assigned department with business objectives in mind.
. Certifies, installs, configures, and/or maintains Kindred operating systems, infrastructure, and middleware.
. Provides 24/7 on call support and basic triage for the assigned department areas.
. Defines configuration specifications for new systems given application, business, and technical requirements.
. Utilizes problem management techniques to perform root cause analysis of system failures, and implement corrective actions.
. Measures application, OS, and hardware performance, and makes recommendations on correcting bottlenecks in systems performance.
. Communicates and documents Kindred operating system, infrastructure and middleware issues within assigned departmental areas.
. Follows departmental systems backup/administration/monitoring review procedures within assigned department.
. Adapts and quickly assimilates new and refreshed operating systems/applications as implemented within the Kindred IT Data Center.
. Assists manager by conducting candidate interviews, participates in the hiring decision, and provides coaching, mentoring, and supervisory duties as required.
. Solicits feedback and guidance of best practices from management and senior team members across Kindred IS departments.
. Serves as coach, mentor, and advisor to less senior department team members.
. Continually enhances knowledge of IT Operating Systems and Kindred standards in order to achieve departmental success and professional growth.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
. Expert with current concepts and terms related to IT operating systems, infrastructure and middleware environments.
. Competent in providing direction and education on departmental procedures/policies/standards to less experienced departmental team members.
. Ability to work independently and lead projects with no supervision.
. Able to understand Kindred's Information System strategy and how it supports the business strategy.
. Competent in the use of industry standard Project Management Methodologies and tools.
. Comprehends and can articulate fundamental concepts and terms related to IT operating systems, infrastructure and middleware.
. Required support experience and/or current working knowledge in the following areas depending on assigned IT Operating Systems departments: OS Operating System
(Job/Task/Device Management), BIOS (Basic Input/output Systems), Communication Protocol (Set of rules, formats and functions for sending data across the network), Messaging Protocol (Set of rules, formats and functions for sending, storing and forwarding e-mail in a network), Programming Language (Translate source language into machine language using assemblers, compliers, and interpreter and application generators. System software and application software programmed in a programming language and turned into machine language for execution)
Qualifications
Education:
. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
. 10+ years working in an IT department.
. 8+ years currently working in the core technical area supported by this assigned department.
. 2+ years leading & coordinating multi -department project efforts within Information Systems.
. Familiarity with IBM System p servers and server hardware.
. Expertise with AIX 5.3 and AIX 6.1.
. Expertise with AIX Server virtualization with IBM Power Systems.
. Proficient with AIX Workload Partitions, Micro-Partitions, and Logical-Partitions.
. Adept at Korn shell scripting and/or Perl scripting for AIX.
