Sr Engineer - Electrical
As a member of GFO Engineering group, the Senior Engineer position involves the application of electrical engineering principles in the support of new and ongoing capital projects and the operations and maintenance of critical facility electrical infrastructure.
Emphasis is placed on expertise in the operation and installation of medium voltage systems, emergency power distribution and electrical controls associated with electrical site infrastructure for manufacturing facilities, research laboratories and central utility plants.
Interface directly with site maintenance and operations groups, trades groups, consultants and capital project managers.
Communicate operational requirements to designers and project managers and ensure this information is translated into design requirements and constraints for equipment/system solutions.
Assist with project definition by performing engineering studies and assessments for electrical/mechanical systems, utilities, power generation and distribution systems, and facility improvements.
Develop design documentation and ensures that the specified design for electrical equipment/systems is appropriately represented in installations.
Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices outside of discipline expertise to a broad variety of assignments in related fields; and employ advanced techniques within area of engineering expertise.
Coordinate and monitor the activities of consultants and engineering firms, as well as coordinating and leading engineering evaluation efforts with support from the maintenance and operations group.
Troubleshoot (e.g. mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system problems); development and execution of commissioning documentation.
Liaison activities with local utility company, project execution support, reliability engineering analyses, and recommendation for energy savings improvements.
Travel to sites in the continental US and Canada as needed.
Basic Qualifications Doctorate degree

Master's degree and 3 years of directly related experience

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of directly related experience

Associate's degree and 10 years of directly related experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of directly related experience
Preferred Qualifications BS Degree in Electrical Engineering
Professional Engineering License 10 years of work experience; 7 years of which having been spent in a facility operations environment: 5 years as an engineer defining work scopes and overseeing work executed by outside vendors
Experience with the electrical infrastructure of a large facility with multiple buildings and operational functions
Experience in design, specification, construction and startup, and/or operations engineering directly related to pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, research laboratories, and central utility plant
Design experience working on operational improvements in an operating facility
Direct experience providing power systems control support to capital projects
Strong knowledge and experience in project life cycle and aspects of project management
Experience in engineering, design, construction, and maintenance of electrical systems (480VAC and over), following NEC and NFPA guidelines
Direct experience with electrical generation and power distribution systems, clean power, electro-mechanical control systems and a general understanding of the system they support
Strong experience in performing root cause analysis and practices
Strong emphasis in retro-commissioning methodology and practices, LEED principles and practices
Experience in energy, sustainability and green building projects from concept to implementation
Team player prepared to work in a matrix environment that relies on collaboration for effective decision-making
Ability to work well in diverse teams
Experience in leading teams without administrative authority and resolving conflicts
Experience in prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
Skilled in verbal and written communication, facilitation, and collaboration
