Position Description

. Ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support customer's applications, in a 12hr day shift
Responsible for the planning, implementing, and execution of Oracle Server database backups and disaster recovery scenarios
Manage database implementation timelines and support installation, tuning, validation and management of new customer databases in SunGard data centers and in remote customer locations
Deliver world-class customer service
Gather technical requirements from SunGard customers and implement various changes and database patches
Work with technical or non-technical customer personnel to maintain the integrity of the customer's databases
Provide detailed, accurate technical documentation and troubleshooting steps to allow tier 1 response to initial problems
Assist in the technical evaluation of new database versions and features.
Train and mentor junior staff members as appropriate.
Must have a minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in the following areas:
Perform database administration and maintenance functions in support of production, uat and development environments
. Perform preventive database management, maintenance, and performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization
. Develop trend and analysis reports indicating database growth and load to anticipate storage, cpu and memory needs; develop maintenance programs and scripts; migrate databases as necessary; tune sql queries and initialization parameters
. Automation of routine database administration tasks
. Providing assistance to application development staff
. Data modeling - Develop physical data models as needed
. Develop environment specifications, benchmarking performance scenarios, and monitoring environments
. Conduct regularly scheduled environmental assessments and developing recommendations and corrective action plans based on the findings
. Develop and test backup and disaster recovery plans / scenarios, and generating required documentation to execute the recovery plan
. Maintain and Administer database security components - work with Product Managers to develop and execute relevant security policies
. Research new products, tools, methodologies, and standards related to all aspects of the database environment and its security, and make recommendations

. Managing Release Migrations
. 24x7 OnCall support on a rotational basis

Position Requirements

Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple workloads and projects with minimal supervision.
Strong technical problem solving skills
. 7+ years continuous experience as a DBA in an Oracle / UNIX environment with installations / upgrades of Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g
. 5+ years continuous experience as an Oracle Applications DBA performing installation, upgrades, patching of the Oracle eBussiness Suite, supporting Financials and CRM modules
. 5+ years continuous experience supporting 9i / 10g Oracle Application Servers, including JSERV / JVM support
. Working knowledge of database backup/restore methodologies including: RMAN, hot and cold backups, export, import, standby, etc.
. 5+ years continuous experience with Workflow, Discoverer, Portal, and Oracle Data Warehouse products
. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work well both individually and within a team environment, and interacting with both technical and non-technical individuals
. Strong SQL and PL/SQL capabilities, including performance tuning experience
. Experience with application code repository tools, such as StarTeam, PVCS
. Experience with HP Deployment Manager (PPM, Kintana)
. Knowledge of different storage platforms such as NAS / SAN, raid levels
. Experience with EMC technologies such as Replication Manager, SanCopy, Snapview
. Strong knowledge of logical and physical database design
. Ability to work effectively in a demanding and fast-paced environment
. Solid Unix shell scripting experience
. R12 experience a plus
