Title: Sr. Information Engineer Location: California-Rancho Bernardo Position Summary: Teradata Information Engineering is seeking a senior technical writer to join our team of talented information developers. The new team member will work within a defined information architecture to develop content for a technical audience. Candidates should be able to rapidly develop breadth of expertise in the hardware and software products comprising the Teradata data warehousing environment. Key Responsibilities may include: . Develop Teradata product expertise by interviewing subject matter experts, performing technical research, and participating in hands-on testing and validation of hardware service procedures and related software tools. . Synthesize knowledge into topics suitable for reuse in multiple delivery contexts. ? Analyze existing and potential content for existing and new publications and other information deliverables, focusing on reuse and filtered single-sourcing opportunities. ? Develop expertise in DITA-based component content management system (Astoria Software) and content development tool (XMetaL). ? Practice a prescribed minimalist writing style. ? Collaborate with team of information developers to create and test structured prototypes of content units. ? As information models and standards are refined, work with existing information to refactor and restructure the content to conform to the new requirements. ? Perform style and structure reviews to ensure adherence to standards. ? Adhere to best practices for using the Teradata CCMS and associated tools. . Collaborate with other team members to implement an information architecture to maximize opportunities for content reuse and achieve consistency. ? Create and redesign web pages for internal and external audiences. ? Collaborate on implementation and maintenance of information delivery structure Basic Qualifications: ? Bachelor's degree, first degree, or equivalent experience in Technical Communications. ? Minimum 7 years as technical writer for complex systems. ? Proficiency in DITA and XML editor. ? Experience developing information in a single sourcing environment using structured writing techniques. Preferred Qualifications: ? Experience working in an agile environment ? Experience with XML based content management system ? Background in hardware documentation ? Proficiency in web design and maintenance ? Understanding of data warehousing concepts. ? Project management concepts and tools. Knowledge and Skills Requirements: . Writing Skills: Writes clear, complete, and correct technical copy in a single sourcing environment using structured writing. . Research and Analysis Skills: Reads complex technical engineering documents and interviews product developers to obtain deep understanding of features and functions. Learns complex software. . Tolerance for Ambiguity: Maintains effectiveness in response to changing and/or unknown program requirements. Able to make progress with incomplete information. . Tolerance for Stress: Maintains stable performance under pressure and/or opposition such as managing pressures to deliver on time while adhering to quality standards. .
