Summary:
The PCR Senior Technician is responsible for compiling and reviewing testing and maintenance documents in accordance with established standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), applicable sections of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), with emphasis on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA), and applicable Baxter and BioLife policies, procedures and quality initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Perform all aspects of PCR pre-batching, pooling, processing, test result entry, equipment maintenance and sample management functions to ensure accuracy and appropriate sample pooling is performed and completed so testing is reported in a timely manner.
•Reviews preventive maintenance on all laboratory instrumentation according to Standard Operating Procedures and Instrument User's Manual.
•Reviews batching and pooling documents, quality control, and other reports for accuracy, completeness and compliance to requirements to ensure that quality standards are met.
•Releases data to Quality Assurance for review and batch release.
•Immediately communicates concerns identified in the testing process to Laboratory Management.
•This position interacts daily with technicians and management within the department and may occasionally interact with technicians or management in other departments.
•Interactions involve basic courtesy, tact and respect. The purpose of daily interactions includes communicating issues related to laboratory equipment, supplies, workload scheduling and participation in continuous improvement activities.
•Occasional interactions include participation at staff meetings, training other personnel and participation in projects.
•Participate in operational excellence initiatives and projects to drive a culture of continuous improvement to achieve site operational excellence and BioScience Operating System (BOS) goals (including but not limited to 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen and Developing Defect Free Processes (DDFP)
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
•Document owner and validator.
•Non-conformance owners and investigator.
•Ensure annual review of SOPs is performed and changes are implemented in a timely manner.
•Ensure that all procedures related to PCR sample pooling are current, have maintenance and quality controls steps, and reflect applicable manufacturer operating requirements and guidelines.
•Ensure that manufacturer inserts on file are current.
•Ensure obsolete documents are properly removed from use and archived.
•Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:

•Ability to read and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to maintain complete and accurate records.
•Demonstrate work history of above average performance and attendance.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and analytical and problem solving skills.
•Detail and result oriented with ability to adapt to changing priorities.
•Proficiency in the use of personal computers preferred.
Education and/or Experience:
•Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in a biological or biomedical discipline preferred.
•Bachelor degree in a biomedical discipline (Chemical, physical, biological, clinical lab science, or medical technology)
•Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology
•PCR pooling experience preferred, but not required.
•Technical/Professional certification as applicable.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
•Ability to stand up for 5 hours
•Ability to lift, carry, pull up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
•Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
•Laboratory environment requiring the ability to walk and stand for the entire work shift.
•Requires frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
•Due to potential exposure to blood borne pathogens, 75% of work tasks require prolonged glove wear.
