Title: Sr. Software Engineer Location: California-San Mateo Sr. Software Engineer Join an amazing engineering team creating the data analytics platform of the future. Build an enterprise class distributed database that natively runs map-reduce programs, SQL and in-database scoring models on petabytes of data. Aster's nCluster is a shared nothing, MPP architecture that provides ACID semantics and blazing query performance. We are looking for very smart engineering leads who have strong algorithmic or programming language background, have done well at top CS schools, and/or have developed and helped advance database technologies in the area of query processing, planning/compilation, and optimization. Responsibilities: · Identify, evangelize, and drive strategic technical direction with a team of engineers alongside with product managers for database components of Aster's highly scalable nCluster database · Tasks will include creation of functional specifications, architectural frameworks and designs which engineers including the candidate use for database query planning and optimization, performance optimization and features development · Enhance/develop new technologies/techniques for query excecution across a distributed database platform while taking into account, total system requirements of modern hardware and clusters, and the resulting impact on each development group · Foresee potential technical issues far in advance and propose solutions or strategies to resolve problems Required skills: · Ability to conceptualize, design and implement new products and product strategies · Experience with leading and developing scalable and highly available database systems · Knowledge of operating systems, Systems programming in Unix/Linux, and programming languages · Ability to understand, develop, and implement advanced data structures and algorithms · C/C mastery (python, Java or oCaml a plus) · Understanding of distributed / parallel systems Preferred Experience and Education: · PhD in computer science/engineering in database systems or MS degree in computer science/engineering with 10 years of relevant experience in database systems development · BS degree with 15 years of experience in database systems development
