Project Description: This position requires deep skill in the fields of disk and tape hardware technologies, storage management, data backup and protection software. The candidate also needs the ability to independently evaluate these technologies and judge their ability to meet enterprise datacenter requirements as well as specific application/project needs. The position is responsible for the engineering and architectural design of storage based solutions. This includes the research, testing, and overall coordination of the procurement, installation and configuration of the architecture. These solutions are frequently massively-complex storage and backup architectures consisting of multiple vendors products. The consultant will be interfacing with other engineering and datacenter teams, as well as customer groups and vendor personnel. This interaction will be needed to collect requirements data and to develop, configure, and implement technology solutions that are tailored to fulfill enterprise disk and backup requirements. The position has responsibility for the development and maintenance of storage related hardware and software standards. These include procedures, policies, vendor product information, and escalation standards. The consultant will work with other internal engineering and architecture teams to develop and support standards documentation for new and existing platform components. The consultant will also work with operational and administration teams to implement standard hardware, software, and procedures. The role has a tier 3 support responsibility. When the local administrators require deep understanding of storage technology, best practices, and standard procedures, the consultant will assist the administrator. Examples of these items include support for enterprise storage and backup infrastructures, coordinating identification and resolution of enterprise-wide hardware/software issues, and performing vendor escalation activities. Additionally, this person will collaborate with vendors and provide overall coordination for wide-reaching or high-priority issues that require vendor technical support or engineering resources. Required Skills: ? Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, Math, Business, or other field with relevant experience. ? 7+ years of data center experience ? 5+ years of storage administration ? 3+ years of systems (Windows and UNIX) administration ? 3+ years of storage and server architecture ? 2+ years of UNIX administration ? Deep proficiency in at least one storage platform (vendor-based) ? NetApp storage solution experience ? SAN/NAS interconnect experience (Data and Ethernet switching) ? Backup/restore and data protection experience Top Secret/SCI (Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
