Job Description: The Sr. Systems Storage Administrator works at the enterprise level with the team of engineers in determining disk storage allocation, backup and restore requirements and redundancy needs. The Sr. Storage Admin evaluates new hardware and software management solutions and makes recommendations to management on adoptions and direction while working closely with Cisco WebEx operations teams to evaluate and implement storage network infrastructure across WebEx's datacenters worldwide.
Position Responsibilities: Works closely with vendors, Database Administrators, GSB and Operations team in designing and managing centralized and decentralized storage area networks Performs capacity planning including allocating storage, providing hardware and software redundancy and planning future expansion requirements Participates as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for design reviews and technology and tool selection Assists in defining, designing, testing and deploying industry-best storage area networking solutions including our in-house storage Proactively assists in defining direction for future technology, infrastructure or architecture projects Evaluate file systems based on scalability, performance, cost efficiency and interoperability for WebEx various datasets and application such as network based recording and meeting services. Establishes guidelines for production, staging, Q/A, and development environments. Designs backup, restore and business continuity solutions. Provide preventive maintenance and troubleshooting to resolve any system/storage issues. Provide system/storage support for WebEx services on a 7X24 basis.
Position Requirements Knowledge: Solid understanding of SCSI, Fibre Channel, SAN, RAID and I/O Storage Sub-Systems. Solid understanding of Network Operating Systems. Good understanding of networking technologies such as protocols, routing, QOS, NIC, HBA, FCOE, and CNA Working knowledge of LAN/WAN infrastructures. Working knowledge of SAN/NAS environments with large enterprise storage systems.
Skills: Comprehensive verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a diversified workload. Demonstrated ability to write and present effective materials, including presentations, status reporting, technical diagrams and flowcharts. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, external clients and other Ops personnel. Demonstrated ability to use problem solving techniques such as root cause analysis to resolve issues.
Experience: Minimum 7 years IT experience in an Infrastructure environment supporting Unix operating systems. Minimum 5 years experience working in a multi-platform environment, including direct experience with one or more of the following operating systems: Solaris, CentOS, Redhat, Microsoft Windows, etc. Minimum 3 years experience working with SAN H/W- like EMC, NetApp, 3Par, etc Hands-on experience designing backup and restore solutions, capacity planning, storage archiving and hierarchical storage Experience with zoning, file and volume management, clustering and replication, backup and recovery solutions, high availability, storage consolidation, performance and tuning, NFS, fabric topologies, SAN, RAID, and TCP/IP Project management experience SaaS or Web 2.0 experience a plus (providing 99.999% uptime of web services) Highly motivated, self starter with a positive attitude and strong initiative to face the challenges of a very fast-paced, high-energy, yet sometimes stressful, customer-focused operations organization
