General Responsibilities: The Sr. Systems Engineer will be responsible for
performing installation, monitoring, and maintenance of assigned systems,
servers, and applications. He/She has detailed knowledge of concepts, practices,
and procedures within the assigned technical areas. In addition to technical
knowledge of Belkin's software and hardware, Senior Systems Engineers need
advanced analytical, troubleshooting, and design skills. Must be able to clearly
communicate and present information to both technical and non-technical
customers, verbally and in writing, using correct grammar and spelling. Relies
on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works with some
autonomy and determines overall priorities of assigned tasks.
Specific Responsibilities: * Design, install, maintain, and provide advanced support for assigned
enterprise wide technical infrastructure, hardware, and systems software
components. * Manage vendor relationship and performance against SLAs for assigned
support contracts (e.g. Server or Application Maintenance). Ensure credit
requests are submitted as specified in agreements when SLAs are not met by a
vendor. * Demonstrate project management skills at a level required to coordinate
severalmoderate-to-complexprojectsor enhancements
simultaneously. * Configure, conduct advanced system debugging, and support multiple
infrastructure platforms. * Perform detailed root cause analysis for service interruption recovery
and implement associated preventative measures. * Develop and maintain systems that proactively monitor health &
performance of systems and infrastructure. * Use software tools to provide analytic trend analysis, capacity
planning, and detailed performance data collection and analysis. * Research and recommend emerging technologies to increase cost
effectiveness, system ability, and future expandability. * Implement and encourage others to consider innovative solutions to
problems or changes to work processes with the goal of eliminating
inefficiencies, improving quality, and reducing costs. * Implement standardized design of new and existing processes and
policies. * Design and document new and existing systems architecture and technology
portfolio. * Perform routine and advanced security tasks including account
maintenance, auditing system event logs, and auditing of access permissions. * Proactively monitor media channels for security vulnerabilities related
to assigned systems. Take aggressive action to evaluate associated threats
and remediate these through configuration changes, software patches, etc.,
using IT change management procedures * May serve in the capacity of Database Administrator in addition to other
systems and applications. * Provides on-the-job instructions, mentoring and guidance to
less-experienced Systems Engineers. * Maintain current technical expertise in the rapidly changing technology * Assist other technical teams in on-site tasks when local resources are
not present. * Monitor and maintain assigned infrastructure support systems such as UPS
systems and Server Room Air Conditioning Units. * Actively encourage a collaborative team environment with others in the
IT department. Partners with other IT teams to accomplish shared goals. * Maintain an excellent working relationship with all departments and
outside suppliers to optimize working relationships and communication. * Provide second level support to end users, ensuring that their issues
are clearly understood before proposing or implementing solutions. Log all
customer problem calls and e-mails, document desk-side and remote support,
and update status information into the IT service ticketing system. * Participate in weekly 24x7 on-call support initiative whereby different
technologists receive alerts on their mobile phone outside of regular
operation hours to respond to critical situations. * Supervise and conduct housekeeping of assigned areas, normally including
Server Rooms and designated IT equipment storage areas. * Supervise and perform server backup and restore tasks. Take immediate
action to alert management and implement long term action to rectify any
backup failures. * Maintain a safe and clean work environment. * Understand and follow company rules and regulations. * Keeps abreast of new industry developments and standards activities that
affect the organization. * Manage nightly, weekly and monthly backups of databases. * Perform operational duties such as user access audits, environment
deployments, and storage capacity management. * Perform all other duties as assigned and required.
Work Conditions: * Able to work non-standard hours for periods of time as needed and
participate in rotating on-call. * Able to travel to domestic and international sites one to three times
during a year, normally for periods of one week or less. * Sitting for extended periods of time * Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse,
and to handle other computer components. * Able to lift, carry and bend as required to install rack mounted servers
and similar equipment weighing up to 50 lbs/20 kg without assistance.
Education and Experience Requirements: * Two-year college degree or equivalent experience; Bachelor's degree
preferred. * Oracle Certified Professional (OCP for 9i/10g), Red Hat Certified
Technician or Engineer (RHCT or RHCE), or equivalent experience. * 3 to 7 years of experience involving assigned systems/applications. * Skills and vendor certifications for multiple operating systems, PKI
experience, database administration skills, and Cisco CCNA certification a
plus. * Experienced in use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and Visio. * Good understanding of network (internet & intranet) routing, TCP/IP,
DNS, FTP, CIFS/NFS, SMTP and other related internet protocols.
Assigned Systems/Servers/Applications, Required
Skills, and/or Certifications (Specific to each Employee): * Configures and supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux clustered and
non-clustered servers, HPUX servers, and Storage Area Networks (SANs) used
for Mission Critical business systems. * Provides Oracle Applications DBA and Oracle Database DBA support such as
installation, maintenance, performance tuning, troubleshooting and cloning
for enterprise systems including Oracle ERP e-Business Suite, Manhattan
Management (PLM) Systems, Hyperion Financial Planning Systems, and Logility
Logistics Planning Systems. * Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in an Oracle Database Administrator
position involving Oracle 9i or newer databases with good knowledge of
SQLPlus and PL/SQL, and a good understanding of Data Definition Language (DDL)
and Data Manipulation Language (DML). * Minimum of 3 years experience in an Oracle Applications DBA position
involving Oracle 11i e-Business Suite. * Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as a System Administrator position
involving HP-UX and Red Hat Linux v4 or v5, including experience in writing
and maintaining Unix Shell scripting. * Minimum of 1 year experience in monitoring and configuring SANs (EMC
preferred) including fiber channel switches (Brocade preferred). * Knowledge of Oracle Database/Application technologies Data Guard, RMAN,
and PCP. * Knowledge of Clustered File Systems such as GFS or OCFS. * Knowledge of HTTP Load Balancing using Hardware Load Balancers is a
plus. * Knowledge of Symantec/Veritas Netbackup Enterprise Server 6 is a plus. * Fulfills responsibilities under ISO 9001 and 14001; understand and fully
support IS0 system. * Fulfills responsibilities under OHSAS 18001, understand and fully
support OHSAS 18001 system.
