We are seeking results-oriented senior writers for our Technical Publications departmentat our Waterloo, Ontario office. This offers a challenging opportunity for an individual with excellent writing skills and experience in the software industry.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Design, develop, test and deliver high quality, technical documentation for mobility, database and server products
- Work with technical support, customers, partners, vendors and others to address product usability, reliability, performance and functionality issues
- Contribute to the definition and implementation of business and product strategy
- Encourage growth of new publishing methodologies, tools and processes
Qualifications:
OUR CORE REQUIREMENTS:
- BS/BA and 6 - 8 years; MS/MA and 5 - 7 years experience
- Computer Science, Journalism, English or a related field of knowledge, plus 4 -6 years of software information development and project management experience
- Excellent communication and writing skills as well as a commitment to identifying and resolving issues
- Strong project management, estimating and research skills
- Ability to analyze, categorize, and organize information
- Experience with full life cycle of documentation for commercial software
- Ability to meet established deadlines and quality standards and to deliver fully on commitments
- Commitment to maintaining clear and frequent communication with remote developersThe successful candidate will have experience in:
- Writing task-oriented documentation, reference material and online help for a variety of technical audiences, including software developers
- Familiarity with DITA or other topic-based writing methodology
- Using publishing software (preferably XMetaLand/or structured FrameMaker)
- Reading proficiency in programming languages such as XML, SQL, JAVA and/or .NET
- Documenting enterprise-scale software that runs on Windows, UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems for mobility, data management and/or business intelligence industries
