Description & Responsibilities of Position: This position is a hands-on IT position requiring technical expertise to effectively support the project’s technology functions. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to configure and troubleshoot the RedHat Linux OS, and hardware issues on server class systems.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: · Function as a senior Linux / Unix administrator · Hands-on experience with IBM BladeCenters and IBM Director software suite · Perl, Shell Scripting (candidate will be writing and troubleshooting code) · Provide system administration services for Linux / UNIX infrastructure and development systems (scripting, loading machines using KickStart, system configuration) · Ensure systems are kept in required configuration profile, including: patch maintenance, changes as required by evolvement of production environments, updating software and software configurations · Practical experience with YUM and multiple YUM groups · Troubleshoot Linux systems identifying hardware, software, and procedural issues · Implement plans for deploying new services in a highly available and automated environment · 7-10 year networking skills / knowledge(Cisco routers and switches) · Be a proactive member of team looking for improvements in technologies and efficiencies. · Assume other duties / projects as they arise and be responsive to the needs of the department · Provide weekly status report on activities completed in the last week and current projects
Required Experience · Shell scripting experience (BASH/CSH/PERL) · 2+ years experience working with RedHat Enterprise Linux, RHEL 3 or 4 · Experience using KickStart or JumpStart to automate system installations · 2+ years experience with DHCP, DNS, SSH configuration · 2+ years of data center experience (racking, cabling, install and configuration, configuration management) · Experience configuring Linux to authenticate against LDAP · Experience working with Rational ClearCase · Experience working with Rational ClearQuest · Experience configuring maintaining DNS (BIND)
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: · A strong dedication to quality customer service · A strong work ethic; displays initiative, very hands-on, as well as a sense of urgency in completing assigned tasks · Superior technical skills; strong problem analysis and troubleshooting skills · Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English · Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as work effectively on a team with other IT personnel
