System Analyst II
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the System Analyst II position is to provide system administration of Red Hat Linux servers. This includes providing analysis of business and management problems in terms of system and user department requirements. This position is classified as essential. The employee must be available for Hurricane Ride Team assignment and or Hurricane Recovery Team assignment per institutional policies. It is expected that the employee will rotate these duties with other members of the team, but the employee may have specialized skills or assignments which require the employee to participate every time. The position requires carrying a pager at all times and working varied hours as needed, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to complete assigned tasks and project deliverables on schedule.
KEY FUNCTIONS
1. Project Management / Consultation a. Acts as a consultant to customer departments in analyzing, planning and implementing infrastructure projects. b. Creates, implements, and updates project plans, documentation, schedules, deliverables and communication plans for assigned projects. 2. Analysis, diagnosis, and problem solving a. Analyzes source documents, data base structure and management report requirements. b. Diagnoses system problems and provides creative and thoughtful technical solutions. c. Monitors system health and performance and implements corrections to improve performance and manageability. d. Resolving complex and non-routine hardware, software, operating system and integration problems that relate to the supported systems. 3. Perform Technical Changes a. Keep OS updated b. Document the environment c. Keep the environment updated i. Firmware Updates ii. Operating System Updates iii. Utility Updates iv. Application Updates 4. Other duties as required. EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science, Accounting, Business, Math or related field. Experience may be substituted for degree.
Preferred: Degree plus some graduate work
Certification:
Preferred: One or more of the following: Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Red Hat Certified Datacenter Specialist (RHCDS), Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA), CompTIA A+, HP Accredited Systems Engineer (ASE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), and/or VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX)
EXPERIENCE
Required: Seven years of experience in analysis/design/project management/programming with two years in systems analysis and the remainder in programming. The candidate must have experience as a system administrator of Red Hat Linux systems. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: The required experience plus two years supervisory experience. Knowledge of specific hardware and software in use at The University of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Experience with SUSE Linux, IBM AIX, and or VMware ESX is also preferred.
