Job Description
Researches, organizes, develops and maintains technical communication materials for Baxter products based upon internal and/or external client needs. These technical materials include, but are not limited to, operator's manuals, service manuals, handi-guides, configuration manuals, programming manuals, online help, web documents and applied labels.
Manages translations and facilitates the approval and release of materials within project deadlines. Works with external vendors to produce finished products in accordance with provided specifications.
1. Researches and collects background materials for technical publications associated with Baxter medical device products.
2. Organizes and designs layout of technical information.
3. Produces accurate materials compliant with the industry best practices and standards established by the corporation, the department and regulatory bodies.
4. Develops documentation plans and related product development process (PDP) deliverables associated with technical publications
5. Defines requirements for externally-focused website where technical publications are posted for customer access. Maintains website content.
6. Defines and updates templates and standard formats for typical technical publications for Baxter medical device products.
7. Develops policies and procedures regarding technical communications development and maintenance.
8. May assist project team with human factors issues surrounding user acceptability/ease of use.
9. May assist with development and updating of technical training materials for both instructor-led and computer-based training courses; ensures consistent graphical design of training materials.
10. May assist with the design, maintenance and related training for internal team websites.
11. May assist with the establishment and maintenance of quality system records for technical publications and technical training.
12. May travel as necessary to meet with development teams and 3rd party partners.
13. Performs other duties as necessary.
Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
1. Analytical, detail-oriented, thorough, and accurate.
2. Ability to work both independently and on a team.
3. Ability to handle a broad range of tasks with multiple priorities.
4. Ability to extract information from interviews, technical documents, test data, and hands-on usage of equipment.
5. Ability to determine the appropriate language level for the intended audience.
6. Superb written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated technical writing skills.
7. Proficient with print (Adobe Framemaker) and electronic publishing software (current).
8. Basic knowledge of production design, graphic design, printing, photography, and illustration.
9. Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
10. Ability to read and understand prints/drawings, wiring diagrams, and flow charts.
11. Candidate must be self-starting, motivated, and flexible.
BS/BA or in Technical Communications or in a related communications field with a strong scientific or engineering background. 1-5 years experience in technical publications, preferably with medical products or with regulating bodies (FDA, UL, TUV).
