Uses manual or Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, to develop and maintain mechanical/structural engineering product definition. Prepares design layouts and modifies existing designs to satisfy customer and production requirements. Assists in the development of product definition based on applicable standards, requirements and design parameters. Develops statements of work, including design requirements, cost and schedule estimates. Coordinates and develops work transfer packages. Contributes to the integration of product definition across internal and external business partners to provide a functional end-product. Investigates and resolves moderately-complex manufacturing processes or engineering related issues. Verifies accuracy of non-technical data produced by others. Supports development of new processes by providing input on detailed aspects of the process. Mentors less experienced personnel. Works under general direction. Leads the development and maintenance of mechanical/structural engineering product definition. Oversees the development and design of layouts and the modification of existing designs to satisfy customer and production requirements. Develops product definition based upon Boeing requirements and parameters. Coordinates development of product definition with internal/external parties to ensure compliance with applicable standards, requirements and design parameters as well as product functionality. Integrates work statement, work scope and work transfer packages with internal and external customers to requirements. Oversees, directs and integrates product definition data packages, requirements and parameters across internal and external business partners and products to provide a functional end-product. Investigates and resolves complex manufacturing process or engineering related issues. Verifies accuracy of technical and non-technical data produced by others. Develops, validates and maintains new processes and procedures to increase productivity and reduce costs.

• Design/Drafting Methods
Basic - Complete knowledge of design and drafting methods (e.g., orthographic projection, descriptive geometry, layout, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing, coordinate systems, etc.) as applied to manual drafting and/or computer-aided design tools in the creation of drawings and datasets.

Other Job related information
Candidates will be on the Boeing SC benefits structure. These positions are for Technical Designer specialists on the 787-8 program in Boeing South Carolina Final Assembly and Delivery. These positions will work as a liaison between design and the factory build process. The role is to facilitate production issues and follow through with process and/or design revisions through Engineering Liaison Request (ELR), Engineering Liaison Substitution Request (ELSR), Corrective Action-Emergent Process Document (CA-EPD), Engineering Quick Change (EQC-EPD), Change Request and revisions to Model Based Designs in a sustaining engineering role. Primary responsibilities include interfacing with the aircraft build process and facilitation of design consultation to the factory and ship side personnel. Close coordination with Liaison Engineers is expected as well as technical interpretation and coaching of trouble shooting personnel in aircraft assembly and integration. Aircraft structure, system testing and assembly experience is a plus. Proficiency in teamwork and collaboration with various technical design, vendors and partners is expected. Skills, training and experience in Boeing Commercial Tools are required. ENOVIA, CATIA-V5, EPLAN, VST and wire harness design knowledge would be leverage in meeting expectations in performance.
