Job Description: IronPort Systems' Web Security Appliance engineering team is looking for a Technical lead/owner of customer-facing Web Security Appliance software and Security Management software (Enterprise-Class Web Proxy/Cache, Layer 4 Traffic Monitor, and associated feature set, management and reporting). Depending on experience/skill-set, candidate might be hired on to own/lead one or more large component(s) with a growth path towards owning/leading the entire appliance software stack as Web Security Platform Architect.
Primary Responsibilities: 1. Work closely with a cross functional team to design new features 2. Review and sign off on requirements documents 3. Write specification documents and drive sign-off 4. Implement new features and extend existing functionality
Required Experience and Skills: 1. Demonstrated technical ownership/leadership of large component(s) 2. Years of experience: 8+ 3. Influenced/led a team of at least 5 s/w developers at varying levels of seniority 4. Languages: o Must-have: C (significant experience: 5-10 years) o Nice-to-have: Python, C++
5. Significant high-level software design experience 6. Significant problem solving skills 7. Significant UNIX experience 8. Experience with high-performance systems 9. Experience working as a peer with Product Management, QA, Customer Support, Program Management 10. Good, clear, concise communicator 11. Proactive, High-energy 12. Some experience meeting with customers and partners 13. Demonstrated experience: o Connecting business requirements with technical solutions and vice-versa o Escalating issues to management o Influencing beyond current team/ownership o Mentoring junior engineers and resolving technical conflicts
14. Delegating problems/component ownership to other engineers
Desired Experience and Skills: 1. Networking protocols and details of TCP/IP desired 2. General networking knowledge with protocol level knowledge of 3. HTTP/HTTPS/SOCKS/FTP/RTSP/IM/P2P 4. Network traffic/protocol classification engines 5. Network Security, Routing, Firewall experience 6. Experience with Python and Code Generation techniques desired 7. Prior experience in web proxy space is desirable 8. LDAP/Active Directory, RADIUS, and other authentication systems 9. Experience working with management to fix or simplify software engineering processes 10. Experience presenting to Customers / Sales reps
