This is an engineering position primarily focused on scaling out the support for Intel Embedded products such as low power IA processors, chipsets and associated circuits at a platform level with focus on the software, providing application demonstrations which show the key features and benefits of Intel embedded platforms and technology, and aiding the technical support given to customers, Intel sales and Marketing, plus Intel?s distribution channel, during the product development phases of a customers? design.
The support includes activities like:
- demonstrate advantages and value proposition of Intel solutions by building product and technology demonstration using reference platform - provide detailed support to customers during the product development phases to ensure product on time launch - enable customers with technical design documentation, firmware, drivers - provide training on specific platform features or technologies and implementation options - analyze existing customer designs and advise on best choices on components, schematic, firmware, OS, drivers and application level - assist customers in technical issue resolutions using own skills and engaging factory engineers - assist customers in porting drivers and applications from competitive architectures to IA
The engineer will be required to consult with customers, specialist colleagues within the immediate Intel SMG team and other divisions including Embedded Communications Group (ECG) and Software Solutions Group (SSG) to facilitate and support the development of solutions, often in application segments where the customer may be unfamiliar with Intel Architecture. This may involve liaison with 3rd parties as necessary to understand new and emerging technologies, stacks or operating systems and develop system level solutions. This role also requires the individual demonstrate a strong understanding of Linux middleware, applications, and user interface technologies. In this position, the candidate will be required to help work with developers in the open source environment on new Intel architectures and components. The engineer should be able to understand the customer?s distribution of software, and recommend way of porting to Intel based solution, whilst offering comparison between alternatives. They will also be required to provide technical support to EMEA customers, Intel field and distribution channel on the issue resolution at a system level, which may include debug of hardware, software and firmware, including reviews. The candidate must be qualified to Degree level in Computer Science, Electronics or programming. The candidate must have experience in the development or application of relevant software or platform level solutions. The candidate must also have skills in customer management & support and display willingness and flexibility to work as part of a diverse team on a range of projects. Recent College Graduates may be considered if they show appropriate experience & knowledge level required within the field.
Role associated skills and knowledge requirements
- Good understanding of software hierarchy and boot-up sequence: CPU microcode, system firmware, BIOS, BSP, boot loaders, device drivers, OS, applications - Knowledge
Application specific knowledge for low power embedded applications: - Practical in high speed circuit design - Experience of debugging electronic circuits to component level using lab equipment and test tools - oscilloscope, logical analyzers, h/w debuggers, etc - Microcontroller programming and debugging - Ability to read and interpret schematic circuit diagrams, make changes to them, knowledge of VHDL and similar languages and tools
- Knowledge of embedded operating systems - Understanding of HW implementation and SW support for peripheral components: display subsystem, NOR/NAND Flash memory, USB flash drives, file systems and memory cards
General technical support skills: - Good understanding of core computer technologies: CPU, memory, interconnects, video subsystem, peripheral components - Prior knowledge of competitive architectures (ARM, PowerPC) - Well developed and logical problem solving - Project management and multi tasking - Ability to communicate effectively with peer engineers and project lead - Discipline, diligence and persistence required to follow-up on actions - Fluent in English verbal and written - Microsoft Office skills.
