About the Job:We are looking to fill a design consultant role in our New York office. The ideal candidate must have experience in product planning and new product research and development within a major commercial setting either having worked as a consultant for or internally within a major company. Relevant industries include the tech sector, consumer electronics, sports, media and content, and health care. We are looking for individuals with a mix of intellectual curiosity, business savvy, design instincts and technical savvy. As a design consultant you will be asked to fill a variety of roles throughout the duration of a project from participating in research planning and ethnographic fieldwork to taking a leading role in insight and concept development. Each of our projects begin by defining key business problems, which we then frame from a social perspective what is the human problem to be solved? Defining the problem and research frame is critical to all our projects, it is the unifying challenge that inspires the team and, when solved, can create powerful insights and opportunities for our clients. As a design consultant, you will be central in this framing the creative filter to ensure that a socially sophisticated research agenda will lead to creative, compelling and feasible solutions. When it is time to turn insights into concrete opportunities, you will take on a leading role in guiding your team in creative problem solving and storytelling. Background:We are looking for someone with a strong design background who has experience (2+ years) with research and strategy-driven work. Ideally you have worked at a leading design consultancy or in a corporate R&D/design setting and have been deeply involved in new product and service development. You should be comfortable with working on a variety of problems yet have the passion and drive to build up your own pocket of expertise. In addition, being able to develop and tell compelling story lines is key. We are interested in people who can develop sharp perspectives and bring clarity and sophistication to their work. Fluency in both written and oral English are mandatory. Additional language skills are an advantage as our clients and studies are located in many different countries. Responsibilities:ReD delivers projects through a flat and dynamic team hierarchy. As a design consultant you will be asked to contribute at every step of a project, and take on a leading role when it comes to problem solving and creative concept development. Having strong creative vision and an ability to argue your case is key, especially when working with non-designers. You should also be comfortable with taking on project management responsibilities, as you will be asked to lead projects that suit your domain of expertise.
