Technical Writer Consultant
Title: Technical Writer Consultant Location: NH-Nashua Dell's Nashua, New Hampshire Design Center, is looking for a senior technical writer for the product documentation group. In this position, you will be responsible for developing and producing technical documentation and information products for EqualLogic's PS Series storage products. Essential Functions:
* Assess the documentation needs for writing projects. * Develop complex information sets from scratch. * Develop technical product manuals as required. * Devleop onine help systems as required. * Interview product experts. * Translate technical concepts into language appropriate for the intended audience. * Translate engineering specifications into end-user, customer documentation. * Synthesize work from other team members and partners and drive consensus among key stakeholders. * Test procedures and content to ensure that the documentation is accurate. * Adhere to departmental standards and use established methods and techniques for writing documentation. * Distribute documents for review at major milestones. * Collect feedback. Field and respond to documentation-related questions and comments from program team members. Resolve issues affecting the project. * Implement single-source authoring of topics-based content. * Work with other members of the documentation team to advance technology, procedures, and policies to improve the quality of information products.
Preferred Knowledge
* Experience in the storage industry, preferred * Documentation experience in an application software environment * Experience with content management systems, structured content design, and modular authoring. * Word, FrameMaker 7.x, XML, HTML, RoboHelp, Flare.
Required Skills
* In-depth understanding of the writing process. Expert knowledge in developing technical content and using multiple information development and publication tools. * Strong analytical, verbal and written (English) communication, and organization skills. * 10 years in the field of technical communication. * 10 years experience writing system-level, solution-oriented documentation and implementing online help systems. * Strong project management skills. Demonstrated experience in leading a writing project, resolving issues, and writing for multiple audiences. * 7 years experience leading small to mid-sized documentation projects from development through production. * In-depth experience writing structured content topics and modular authoring. * Self starter who can work independently and meet deadlines. Able to work in a fast-paced, complex, technical environment. * Degree emphasizing technical knowledge or communication skills in related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Journalism, English)
