The Technician IV Manufacturing assigned to the Sheet Metal Area works with Engineers and other Customers to understand requirements for the production ofrequested parts. He / She programs and operates punch presses and brakes to produce precision sheet metal parts in a prototype / small production job shop. As a member of the Machine Shopteam, this technician works to continually improve processes and maintain 5S disciplinethroughout the shop.
Summary of Duties
- Programs and operates CNC Punch Presses and Brakes to fabricate parts - Reviews drawings and other documentation to estimate labor and materialsrequired for job completion - Places material requisitions with administrative assistant in support of assignedjobs - Identifies and orders machine tooling as required for each job - Completes assigned jobs to required quality specifications and due dates - Interfaces with Engineers and other customers to understand and clarify jobrequirements - Interfaces with Quality function to understand and coordinate the production and inspection of parts to meet product specifications and workmanship standards - Provides operator maintenance on assigned machines - Maintains 5S program for Sheet Metal Area - Promotes and maintains a safe work environment - Assists with tasks outside of the Sheet Metal area as required Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years experience programming, setting up and operating Punch Presses and Brakes to produce precision sheet metal parts from various types of metal, preferably in a small production / prototype job shop environment - Ability to produce flat pattern layouts, calculating appropriate bend allowances and accounting for tolerance stack up. Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and CAD files and translate into programming for Punch Presses and Brakes using separate PC based software. - Proficient in the use of riveting tools. Familiar with fixed, floating and riveted hardware common to the aerospace of various measuring instruments to include micrometers, boregauges, calipers, etc. - Must be a US Citizen, able to attain and maintain DOE 'Q' Clearance - Minimal Education of High School / GED
Additional Qualifications:
- Must be able to program and set up machines working from prints, electronic files or verbal instructions - Proficient with CNC punches and brakes, as well as manual milling machines and lathes - Ability to provide labor and materials estimates from parts documentation provided) - Proficient in use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. - Proficient in the use of various measuring instruments to include micrometers, bore gages, calipers, etc. - Experience with TIG welding - Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean concepts in a Machine Shop environment - Experience with high precision parts and performing the complicated set ups required to produce these parts - Ability to provide labor and materials estimates from parts documentation provided - Ability to identify tooling requirements from parts documentation provided - Ability to interface with engineers and other customers on product specifications and fabrication processes - Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs for machine shop equipment - Experience working in a continuous improvement team environment - Experience with CAD packages such as Solidworks or ProE
