Overview:
The Underwriting Technician is an integral member of the underwriting team, providing day-to-day customer service to producers on policy related matters and managing workflow for underwriters so they can be as effective as possible and have adequate time to focus on cultivating producer relationships and business development.  The Underwriting Technician will also partner with Underwriting Support Services to develop and maintain streamlined processes and workflows.

There are two Underwriting Technician positions available in the Richmond's Brokerage Property line. 
Responsibilities:
While the job duties of each Underwriting Technician will vary by product line and the support needs of the underwriters they support, the following is representative of the types of tasks that Underwriting Technicians will perform.
* Workflow Management
* Monitor underwriters' email boxes and/or workflow queues; triage incoming requests; handle those within authority and distribute others as needed
* Respond to inquiries from producers and underwriting support areas
* Handle Broker of Record related correspondence and other notices
* Standardization & Best Practices
* Partner with peers to establish and maintain best practices and standard procedures for similar tasks
* Quoting/Binding Process
* Triage and pre-underwrite submissions; follow up with producers for missing items; complete rating/quoting worksheets; obtain loss data; calculate loss ratios
* Create quotes for underwriter review, including recommendations on risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, conditions and subjectivities
* Follow up with producers for bind orders; close out quotes not bound and send required notices when applicable
* Match bind orders to quotes; work with producer and/or underwriter to resolve discrepancies; verify receipt and approval of subjectivities needed to bind; follow up with producer for missing items
* Policy & Endorsement Issuance Process
* Provide issuance instructions for binders, policies, endorsements and other policy related transactions; verify receipt and acceptability of items needed for issuance; follow up with producer for missing items
* Review policies and endorsements for accuracy and take required action to remedy deficiency
* Handle the full cycle of cancellations for underwriting reasons and cancellations of adjustable premium policies
* Renewal Process
* Run policy expirations lists
* Work with underwriters to determine appropriate action for each policy; send required notifications
* Set up renewal submissions; prepare renewal quotes within assigned authority
* Perform follow up and close out procedures on renewal submissions not submitted and/or not bound
* Miscellaneous
* Assist with resolution of billing matters and audit disputes
* Run standardized reports as requested
Qualifications:
* Strong PC skills, especially in Word, Excel, and Outlook and paperless working environment
* Strong skills in verbal and written communication, analysis and problem solving, organization and time management
* Excellent customer service skills
* Detail-oriented
* Self-directed and highly productive with minimal supervision
* Comfortable with high volume workloads, multiple priorities and production standards
* Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
* 2+ years of insurance related experience, including a fundamental understanding of underwriting concepts, practices and procedures; general knowledge of product offerings and solid business acumen.
