Job Description
•Develop processes, procedures and cost-effective technical solutions to support and improve systems.
•Design, implement, and support advanced and diverse technical solutions that address complex business requirements.
•Research technology solutions to meet business needs.
•Interface with IT customers to understand business requirements and customer needs and assist in the development of business cases and justifications.
•Provide technical education, guidance and consulting to IT customers and team members on technology solutions, services, and standards.
•Evaluate and recommend products and systems in key technology areas with focus on Unix operating systems.
•Identify and implement process improvements in the architecture and/or infrastructure of existing systems.
•Remain up to date on new and emerging technologies within area of technical expertise and serves as resource to other Baxter employees.
•Participate in functional design review across the company.
•Lead complex technical projects supporting global technological decisions and implementations.
•Prepare business requirements, system assessments, project and process assessments, and implementation documentation for technical projects.
•Install and support technical solutions and implementations.
•Install, configure and maintain Unix based operating systems including Solaris, Linux and AIX and applications including Sendmail, Bind, SSH, TCP/IP and NFS.
•Work interactively with teams of senior administrators managing Windows and Network operating environments as needed.
•Write Perl and Shell scripts as needed.
•Establish service-level metrics used to define and measure technology services.
•Establish and manage effective vendor relationships.
Job Requirements
•Breadth and depth in several architectures or platforms.
•Ability to solve complex technical and business problems.
•Ability to manage projects and interact with all levels of management.
•Experience with technical analysis, modeling and simulation a plus.
•Technical expertise and/or breadth in one or more systems environments and strategic technologies.
•Ability to understand and assist in evolution and/or integration of Baxter applications.
•Experience installing and supporting Solaris Unix OS in a physical and virtual environment.
•Experience in clustered environments.
•In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, BIND, NFS, NIS, SSH, SNMP, NTP services.
•Strong knowledge of operating system internals, file system structures and machine architectures in a Solaris Unix operating environment.
•Experience in performance tuning, package installation, patch management updates, network and server management issues.
•Experience with automated installation tools.
•Ability to work off-hours for system upgrades, emergencies.
•Proficiency in compiling, customizing and supporting tools and products obtained from source code.
•Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
•Self-starter; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•Strong problem solving, analytical and documentation skills.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
•8+ years of relevant technical experience, including systems analysis, design and implementation.
•Minimum of 6 years experience supporting complex Solaris environments.
•Sun certifications preferred.
