We are currently looking to engage a full-time Unix Administrator on a contract basis. If you are the best in your field, we like to hear from you. Responsibilities: We are looking for a flexible, self motivated individual to join our team of UNIX system administrators. The ideal candidate must be able to function in a high availability (24x7) production environment with multiple operating systems and hardware platforms. . Maintain UNIX server infrastructure to support business requirements and established service levels. . Provide a system administration function for the UNIX servers, i.e. addition of new devices, resource management, performance tuning, upgrading software and operating systems. . Maintain the integrity of company data (corporate, print and online) by ensuring systems are monitored effectively and secure. . Follow standards and best practices for system design, testing and implementation. . Install hardware (Intel, Sun and IBM) and operating systems (Linux, Solaris and AIX) as directed within set maintenance windows. . Troubleshoot hardware/operating system problems and take corrective action. . Manage user accounts and data stored on UNIX servers in QA, DEV and PROD environments. . Ensure the integrity of the tape backups on a daily basis. . Manage and maintain the sever and network monitoring system (Big Brother, Hobbit, IBM Director) to detect any hardware or software issues. . Assist peer groups (App, Network, DBA and Service Desk etc.) with troubleshooting activities. . Co-ordinate all system related changes and follows established Change Management process. . Leverage opportunities to implement cost savings/reduction technology. . Improve skills and knowledge through self-directed and/or company sponsored training. Qualifications: . Post-secondary degree in Computer Science is strongly preferred; . Minimum 3 years experience as a Unix Administrator in an enterprise environment. The successful candidate must possess: . Experience as a UNIX Systems Administrator in a Linux, AIX and Solaris client/server environment. . Proficiency with UNIX (sh, bash) and Perl scripting. . Knowledge of fundamental network/distributed computing concepts such as NFS, NIS, LPAR and high availability clustering technologies such as HACMP etc. . Experience with Internet protocols, servers and technologies including: HTTP, TCP/IP, FTP, DNS, Web Proxies, Firewalls and DNS. . Must be competent supporting Email protocols, applications such as SMTP, Sendmail and Postfix. . Experience supporting mission critical relational database applications (e.g. Oracle) from a systems and storage perspective. . Experience with IBM server hardware e.g. X series (3550, 3650, Blade Center) and P series (550,560,570) and exposure to Dell and SUN server hardware. . A solid understanding of SANs, Fibre switches/fabric, RAID, ATL and server backup/recovery technologies. . Working knowledge of virtualization technologies e.g. VMWare. . Knowledge of Veritas disk management and backup applications e.g. Volume Manager, Netbackup etc. . Some technical project management skills required to perform major hardware or operating system migrations and upgrades.
