Our Corporate Network Security division is currently seeking a Watch Shift Leader. This position is located in Columbia, MD.
The Network Watch Shift Leader is responsible for protecting and monitoring Battelle's nationwide computer and communications networks. The Shift Leader will direct and control the actions of the Watch Specialists, and will coordinate with Battelle management, contractors, and external assets on a pre-determined basis. The Shift Leader will provide analysis and remediation capabilities to the business, scientific, research, and special project networks. The Shift Leader is also the senior technical expert for the shift, and will provide training and mentorship of more junior members. The Shift Leader will routinely work with CIO staff members, corporate managers, and other organization security staff, as needed, to understand network situations, provide targeted analysis of events and outcomes, and redress exploitation attempts and misconfiguration errors.
Job Responsibilities
· Ensure the watch team successfully monitors and assesses network traffic and communications across Battelle's nationwide network using commercial and custom tools. This network is a heterogeneous mix of infrastructure and endpoint equipment, and Specialist will need to master understanding how vendor diverse products interoperate.
· Execute pre-determined escalation process for events / attacks that exceed the current shift's ability to respond/react.
· Routine interaction with customers.
· Will be the decision maker for many network decisions - must be able to correctly and decisively act in the defense of the networks.
· As the senior technical team member, the Shift Leader must have expert knowledge of infrastructure equipment, protocols, the Battelle network, troubleshooting techniques, monitoring tools, and be able to guide the continued the training of the Watch staff.
· Assist the Incident Response Team in the conduct of investigations.
· Work will be on a shift basis and will support 24 X 365 operations
· Analyze incidents, prepare reports to describe the event and suggest ways to counter it.
· Counter cyber attacks (as directed)
· Positions are available in Columbus, OH; Columbia, MD; and Aberdeen, MD.
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
· Must have an active Secret Clearance, or have one within 6 months of hire to the position.
· Must have either a Bachelor's Degree related to network security, or have 4 years network security / network watch operations experience
· Must have expert knowledge of routing, switching equipment and protocols and an excellent understanding of telecommunications.
· Must understand and efficiently implement workflow to ensure team accomplishes all missions within the shift window
· Must have at least 6 years of experience with personal computer security and have an expert working knowledge of existing enterprise level security and monitoring products.
· Must be able to work shifts (this job has rotating shifts to support 24 hours per day, 365 days per year security operations)
· Must be able to use technical briefs, oral descriptions, and review of logs to prepare clear, complete, technically accurate reports for both management (concise and focused) and senior technical staff (technically detailed).
· Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer-interface.
· Must have direct experience with commercial tools to manage and monitor networks.
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
· Active TS Security Clearance
· Willingness and ability to become TS/SCI cleared.
· JunOS, CISCO, or similar certifications.
· Background or firm understanding of incident response procedures and practices.
· (strongly desired) ISP, large network, or medium-sized network (> 5000 infrastructure systems and > 20,000 end point systems) analyst or sysadmin experience
