About the Job
We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive security and privacy software engineer to help identify and address vulnerability issues in newer and existing applications to make our portal a best in its class platform in terms of security and privacy. An ideal candidate will have strong customer-facing web application programming experience with an in-depth knowledge of security and vulnerability, demonstrated keen problem solving skills, and the ability to design and implement powerful yet easy to use solutions.

About the Team
EdgeControl is Akamai’s main portal. It is the critical system that all of our customers interact with to gather traffic analytics, manage configurations, fetch training and support materials and view their bills. The Portal Systems group is responsible for the software infrastructure and technical evolution of EdgeControl, and is located in San-Mateo, CA.
Development Engineers on the Portal team execute full lifecycle development of a multi-tier web application: requirements analysis, application design, implementation, deployment. We develop primarily in Java and Perl.
Responsibilities:

* In house security expert to inspect existing and new code for vulnerabilities and propose solutions to address them.
* Evangelize best security and privacy practices to application developers.
* Perform security and privacy audit.
* Develop and/or integrate automated tools or solutions for tracking and finding security issues at code build and run times.
* Design and develop back-end infrastructure components and pertaining web services.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.
* Minimum 2+ years of web software security and privacy expertise either as a consultant or in-house specialist.
* Mastery of security technologies such as SAML, PKI, SSL, authentication systems, ciphers, crypto modules and protocols.
*Minimum 2+ years developing customer-facing applications using Java and J2EE.
* Minimum 2+ years working in UNIX / Linux environment.
* Excellent written and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications
* Masters degree in Computer Science or related field.
* 2+ year relational database programming (preferably Oracle).
* 2+ years of Perl scripting.
* Deep understanding of internet and networking protocols.
