The Millbrook Independent, a weekly community newspaper, needs a journalist qualified in the fine arts - music, art, dance, theater and literature; all or some. Generalists preferred. Write previews, interviews and reviews. Overt criticism eschewed; subjectivity preferred. Write in first, second or third person, but only one at a time. Cover performances, art events, do interviews, discover talent. Almost anywhere, but prefer regional, i.e., Mass MoCA to Williamsburg; from New Haven to Poughkeepsie. We do not do New Jersey, or anywhere on the Other Side of the River, but that prejudice does not extend to the art or artists. You will be expected to build an arts page that will be somewhat self-supporting via art related ads, but you will not be expected to sell ads. Networking amongst the theaters, producers, galleries and studios is expected. Cover Bard and Vassar productions, recitals and shows; also local schools, galleries and other venues.
