Break Your Own 4 Minute Mile

Posted by

Roger Bannister was the individual who made history when he did what many people thought was virtually impossible. What he did was run one mile in less than four minutes. Up until that time no one was able to do it. There were many experts explaining why it couldn’t be done, and the whole world believed it couldn’t be done; all but one man, Roger Bannister.

Wikipedia notes that “This historic event took place on 6 May 1954, during a meet between British AAA and Oxford University at Iffley Road Track in Oxford. It was watched by about 3,000 spectators.” Of course when it was announced that Roger Bannister had broken the 4 minute barrier with a time of 3 minutes 59.4 seconds, the crowd went wild. Over the annuls of recorded history, no one had seen what they just saw. They had just witnessed a human being running a sub four minute mile and they were ecstatic. There is a critical connection between Roger Bannister and your construction job search.

When it comes to doing what many people believe is impossible, does your job search for the perfect construction job fall into that category? Do you have friends and family members who tell you to stop dreaming and to find some other kind of work to get into? It is not hard to start to think that your expectation of finding your dream job is just that, a big fat dream. It is easy to get discouraged and begin to feel sorry for yourself. However, that kind of thinking will only get you a free membership into the “losers club.” This is the club where losers simply complain and always refrain from doing what it takes to win. This is a club you want to steer clear of, because it will only bring you disappointment and regret.

To break your own four minute mile and gain entry into the winners club you must start thinking about what is possible. You will find it to be in your best interest if you make a list of the things you must do that will help you find the perfect construction job. Some of the things to include on your list are:

* searching the web for specific construction job websites
* internet research on new trends in the construction industry
* becoming familiar with, and enrolling in, the appropriate new construction certification programs
* researching on potential employers in your geographic area

Once you have compiled your list, prioritize which activities you will complete, schedule them into your calendar and begin working on them. Once you have this system of identifying and working on these individual items, you will be making progress towards breaking your own four minute mile. It won’t be long before people will be cheering for you as you cross the finish line, and find your perfect construction job.
