Creating Your Life Time Goals

Posted by

Setting goals for your life should be an integral part of your overall strategy to advance in your career. Whether it is to find a new or a different job, it is critical to create a plan for what you want to accomplish in all areas of your life. When you create this plan, you will create a solid foundation that balances your journey throughout your stay on planet earth.

As I mentioned in one of my other articles, “Life’s Journey is Like a Canoe Trip”, unless you are able to get up high enough to see your journey from above, it is unlikely that you will have a clear picture of where you are headed. As the saying goes, “If you are not sure where you are going, any road will take you there”.

If you do not have a fairly clear picture of where you are headed, life can become frustrating, meaningless and unfulfilling. When it gets to the point where you begin to lose your motivation, you can become directionless. This typically can lead to the syndrome of going to bed early, sleeping late, and having trouble getting out of bed the next morning. This type of avoidance pattern can be one of the ways your mind tries to escape the reality of the present career challenge you are facing.

Create a Goal Plan
By creating at an overall goal plan for your life, you will give yourself options to lead a meaningful and productive life. This article is the first in a series that will guide you through this process of setting and reaching your goals in the eight life domain areas. The eight different areas I have organized goal setting into are: health, career, self-improvement, financial , leisure-social, spiritual, family, and material acquisitions.

Create a Master List of Goals
The first step in this system is to put on some easy listening music and take out a sheet of paper. You can also open up a blank page on your computer. This is where you will record all the goals that will go on your “Master List “. Before you begin writing, I want you to imagine that in your hand, you hold a magic wand. When you wave this magic wand, anything and everything that you would possibly want to do, become or have, will come to pass.

Once you start writing, keep writing until you have exhausted any and all dreams and goals you can possible think of adding to this list. Don’t think about how you will achieve these things. When you have completed this part of the exercise you are ready for the next step which is classifying and organizing them. I will cover that step in our next article.

Create a “Master List” that contains everything you could possibly want, be, do or have. Once you have done that, you will have taken the first step to making it happen. If you are interested in a better career in construction visit Flagship URL www.ConstructionJobForce.com
