The weekend of the 23rd of October marked the end of the USA Science and Engineering Festival with a grand Expo on the National Mall in Washing, DC. The festival, hosted by title sponsor Lockheed Martin, was an inagural event aimed at rekindling the interest of the nation’s youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

The Festival, which ran from the 10th to the 24th, covered a broad swatch of science topics, ranging from evolution to astronomy, naval science to Rubik’s Cube competitions, and workshops where kids and adults alike could build solar-powered robots. The grand expo -- the finale to the two-week festival -- sported hundreds of booths and exhibits prepared by the show’s partner agencies and companies.

Science education has been slowly but surely making a comeback in US school districts, and hopefully a push like this from a science-minded administration leads to bigger and better developments in the sciences and engineering in the years to come.

For a lot of great moments from the festival, check out #scifest on Twitter, the official dispatches from USAScienceFest on Twitter, and their Facebook Group.
