Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University Tenure In IT industry: 15 years First Tech Job: Desktop support for a small consulting firm to build and deploy PCs. Current role: As CTO I am responsible for all technology departments. Even though we don't have a very big team, we are supporting a number of major functions such as Web development for our web site http://www.rfandb.com; MIS for our CRM system which processes reservation requests from our 400,000 plus customer database; operations for our network, systems, and teller communication service and intellectual property functions for our patents. What's been your best job and why? This is my best job so far. We are going to change the industry on how it interfaces with their customers. What do you think is the number one non-IT skill IT professionals need today? Communication. What's your favorite IT resource site and why? www.google.com as you can final almost anything from there. That's the first place I go when I have a question. I can't think of one that is better. What is the best career advice you've ever received? Make your boss's problem yours. What's the top advice you'd give to a new IT staffer? It's not a job if they do the same thing everyday. They need to find a way to automate it. What would you advise someone looking to find the type of role you currently have? I have always worked myself out of the job. I spend a lot of time automating my job so that I can spend time doing bigger and better things.
