It seems the ability to focus isn't a strong skill among many senior executives and managers these days. A survey from NFI Research reports that just about a fifth (22 percent) rate themselves as high in focus, while eight percent ranked themselves as "low." Focus was one of 12 executive skills measured in the worldwide survey of 246 senior executives and managers. The remaining skills are self-restraint, working memory, emotion control, task initiation, planning/prioritization, organization, time management, defining and achieving goals, flexibility, observation and stress tolerance.

According to Chuck Martin, CEO of NFI, anyone who rates their focus strength as "low" will have a tough time staying on track, given all the interruptions at work . Focus, as defined by NFI, is the capacity to maintain attention to a situation or task in spire of distractions, fatigue or boredom. One respondent noted that while his company's top executives are better focused then he, he believes the quality of his work output is usually superior. Another survey participant noted that when tasks become routine he loses interest and finds it difficult to stay on task.
