Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer with a passion for engineering and the desire to be part of an innovative, dedicated team responsible for future development and testing of the Next Gen Low Range Radio Altimeter (LRA). The LRA provides precise, digital height measurements above terrain during aircraft approach, landing, and climb-out phases of flight.
Candidates are expected to an active member of a cross-functional team during all phases of an engineering system development project. Responsibilities include leading systems development activities, systems-level requirements definition, design, integration, and system verification activities. This position will also offer the opportunity to work closely with our domestic and international partners and customers in the development of the system.
Specific responsibilities of this position span all phases of system product development including system requirements analysis, definition, allocation, and validation; system architecture design; system integration and requirements verification testing; system modeling and simulation; coordination among systems, hardware, and software design functions; and developing systems related documentation.
Experienced engineers will be available to provide mentoring to develop your skills as a system engineering lead and to increase your depth of knowledge in the product line.
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

Expert-level understanding of the development and certification of complex, integrated, safety-critical aircraft systems
Working knowledge of avionics, electrical systems, and related equipment, technical standard orders, and minimum performance standards
Proficient in managing complex sets of requirements
Previous experience in system integration testing
Excellent problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills
Experience with Python, Perl or other script writing tools
System level requirements decomposition/analysis, system design and allocation to subsystems/products
System integration planning and execution, and system level verification and validation.
Interfacing with system, subsystem, and product teams in the allocation of system level requirements, decomposition into lower-level requirements and design decisions, and resolution of problem reports
Exhibiting strong team skills working with both domestic and international team member
Effective time management and ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
Experience with radio navigation products (i.e GPS, Radio Altimeter, Multi Mode Receiver MMR)
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge in MATLAB/Simulink simulation
Understanding and application in practice of the SAE ARP 4754A
Proficient in preparing and presenting design reviews for complex, highly integrated systems
Strong ability to communicate company objectives, technical content, and FAA certification requirements and expectations to a variety of stakeholders
8+ years of aviation or defense industry experience
Working knowledge of DO-178C and DO-254 processes
Working knowledge of RTCA/DO-160G environmental qualification standards

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
