    Overview

    This position can allow for remote candidates, but preference is in proximity to Salt Lake City, UT or Little Rock, AR.

    Purpose and Essential Duties

    The Battery Energy Storage System Commissioning Engineer applies standard engineering techniques to commission, test, maintain, repair, and implement BESS projects. The BESS Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the evaluation of existing infrastructure and development and execution of commissioning plans for BESS projects. The position will develop analysis of batteries for demand management opportunities to validate operational applicability and economic investment. Experience with electrical distribution systems in health care and higher education campus buildings and comparable mission critical systems is required. They will frequently interact with clients, contractors, and engineers to fulfill the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. This position may also include supervisory responsibilities.

    Responsibilities

    Specific responsibilities include

    • Analyzes, evaluates, and selects control software for BESS projects.

    • Commissions and tests BESS projects.

    • Applies engineering techniques and analyses within the scope of the assignment.

    • Project Development:

    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of battery technologies and applications.

    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of eligible demand management programs.

    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Energy Management and Battery Management software offerings and vendors.

    • Create energy usage projections based on battery installations.

    • Review design documents, M&E specifications, and shop drawings of applicable metering systems to confirm all project requirements are met.

    • Verify performance of battery projects.

    • Remote Monitoring:

    • Collect and evaluate energy, battery diagnostics and building automation data on a periodic and episodic basis.

    • Review data and identify facility operational issues affecting BESS performance.

    • Develop recommendations to address any identified operational issues.

    • Prepare reports for project stakeholders summarizing all discoveries.

    • Other

    • Perform the assigned duties with minimal supervision, while working in a team problem-solving environment.

    • Other duties as assigned or required.

    This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Vice President Demand Management.

    Qualifications

    Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.

    • 7+ Years of Experience in a related field.

    • Advanced knowledge of commercial battery systems.

    • Experience with energy savings projects.

    • Experience with battery management software.

    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft applications.

    • Performs work under minimal supervision.

    • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.

    • May act as a lead or first-level supervisor.

    • Critical thinking skills.

    • Problem solving skills.

    • Computer skills.

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.

    Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

    • Experience with energy modeling software.

    • Experience with building automation systems.

    • Experience with energy efficiency programs.

    • Strong organizational skills.

    • Experience with data analytics tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Python, Tableau, Jupyter Notebook, or R.

    Travel Requirements

    • 25% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

    Physical/Work Environment Requirements

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    • Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
