    The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution?of?Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement?and the?design and?manufacture?of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

    Job Summary

    The Design Engineer designs, develops, builds, and implements new components, products, or technologies.

    This position is located in Chillicothe, IL and does not offer relocation

    What You Will Do

    • Responsible for component designs used in all Caterpillar engines and machines

    • Research and develop new test methods and procedures for products

    • Develop, manage, analyze the testing and validation of components

    • Collaborate with internal customers, suppliers, and manufacturing facilities to improve product and process performance

    • Write technical reports that detail methods and findings. Keep accurate and detailed records of research and development activities and results

    • Support procurement team on cost, quality, and assurance of supply topics for components

    • Design control ownership to manage the component product portfolio

    • Focus on innovation, benchmarking, and researching new materials

    • Provide application analysis, recommendations, and support for internal partners

    What You Have

    • Bachelor's degree

    • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Working Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts

    • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production

    • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges, as well as the ability and desire to learn new skills

    • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation

    • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems

    What Will Set You Apart

    • Design experience with rubber components

    • Experience working with dynamic systems, vibration data and formulating acceptance criteria

    • Experience in NPI, CPI, APQP, and FMEA

    • Experience in DATK, Matlab, Dynasty / Tomsim, Minitab, Fastener Advisor, Creo, and Teamcenter
