    Description

    The Designer will be responsible for preparing electronic working plans, technical and shop drawings for various railing and architectural projects from preliminary concepts, sketches, calculations, specification sheets, and other data. The Designer will review plans and confer with internal stakeholders to meet project specifications, complete documentation packages, and produce drawing sets. This role is hybrid, in office 2-3 days per week, but consideration will be given to qualified candidates within central Florida (greater Tampa and Orlando metro areas), who are able to work remotely and come into the office twice a month.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Design and prepare detailed electronic working plans, charts and/or scale drawings for railings and architectural projects from observation, measurements, sketches, and specifications

    • Produce detailed drawings and specifications using dedicated computer software to produce design specifications, including parts lists and cost information

    • Work closely with both the Project Manager and Production Supervisor to select cost effective materials and construction techniques

    • Create custom architectural products from Elevation sketches and incorporate the design drawings into tool palettes

    • Make basic computations to determine layout of charts, strength of materials and requirements for structural design

    • Organize and maintain a design and digital file database for each project

    • Provide technical guidance and direction to staff in the interpretation and implementation of specifications and requirements and the procurement and use of design files

    • Prepare electronic layouts, charts, detailed scale drawings, and material and equipment requirements from sketches, specifications, and standard layouts provided

    • Revise computer-aided designs and plans to comply with modified specifications made during actual construction

    • Brainstorm as part of a team or develop design concepts using computer-aided design, and other traditional design tools

    • Review plans and writing technical reports to meet project specifications

    • Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets

    • Employ problem-solving strategies and find solutions to product design issues

    • Other duties as assigned

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software and familiarity with 3D modeling tools

    • Experience utilizing Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) in a professional environment

    • Math knowledge needed to calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and requirements in materials

    • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

    • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, deliver presentations, and demonstrate active listening skills.

    • Able to multitask, organize project elements, and meet deadlines

    • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.

    • Experience with project management skills and the ability to utilize best practices for project management

    • Ability to be self-directed yet collaborative in dealing with customers and fellow employees

    • Receptive to change - can adapt to changing circumstances and adjust project elements accordingly

    Experience

    • Experience with AutoCAD required

    • 2 years of experience with 3D - Revit or full AutoCAD preferred

    • 2 years of design experience in miscellaneous metals or similar industry preferred

    • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Word

    Education

    • 2-year degree or certification in Drafting or similar required
